Got in a little muscadine pruning today before the rain started. Phase 1: Did major renovation to these 30+ year old vines by cutting excess vines, dead material and pulling vines from trees. Phase 2 will include a separate company coming behind me to remove all of the nearby trees. These babies need a lot more sun. Once that happens I will retrellis them and finish out the lighter pruning work. I will also come back to this location later in February to begin working on this large patch of blueberries. Check out how tall these guys are! I am doing a full renovation on this patch and cutting some all the way to the ground so I am looking forward to seeing how they flourish after the large scale pruning efforts. Excited for a weekend full of pruning orchards and pruning coaching sessions! This time of year is the best time of year to shape up young fruit trees, and remove limbs on neglected fruit trees to increase air circulation. I am also going to be doing some work on rejuvenating a blueberry patch that is more than fifty years old. How cool!

It was a beautiful day to help a client with light pruning and limb training. Pears are especially susceptible to limb breakage. Training limbs helps prevent breakage and increases fruit production by increasing air circulation which helps prevent disease. 🌱
