Housing instability is a maternal and infant health issue. Housing instability during pregnancy is linked to preterm birth and low birthweight, and Ohio has a shortage of 266,000 affordable units for its lowest-income renters.

At Infant Vitality Advocacy Day, we're advocating for investment in proven models like Healthy Beginnings at Home, which pairs pregnant women facing housing instability with rental assistance and support — and has been shown to increase healthy, full-term births. Coalition On Homelessness and Housing in Ohio

Did you know the U.S. is the only developed nation without guaranteed paid maternity leave, and Ohio is one of the states with no statewide paid family leave program? Roughly 4.4 million Ohio workers have no paid leave through their employer, a gap linked to higher rates of infant mortality and postpartum depression.

At Infant Vitality Advocacy Day, we're asking legislators to co-sponsor SB 396, bipartisan legislation that would provide 14 weeks of job-protected, partially-paid leave for new parents and caregivers. Learn more at timetocareohio.org.

Maternal mental health deserves care, conversation, and community. Join us Friday, Sept. 25 for a 90-minute community panel exploring the realities of maternal mental health, how our communities can support mothers, and ways to recognize when someone may be struggling.

Everyone is welcome, including patients, families, community members, and healthcare professionals. A virtual option will also be available.
