Dr. Jennell Vick is currently seeking volunteers 10-15 or 18+ years of age for a research study about the movements of the tongue and lips during speech production. What is the purpose of the project?
•To understand how the tongue and lips move during speech production in children ages 10-15 years old OR in adults ages 18+ years old

Who is eligible? Individuals who:
•Are native speakers of Americ

an English
•Have no history of communication disorders

OR Individuals who:
•are 10-15 years old
•are native speakers of American English
•do not have a history of neurological damage
•are currently seeing a speech-language pathologist for a speech sound disorder

What is the time frame?
•We are currently scheduling appointments
•Each session will take up to 90 minutes
•The Lab is located in the CWRU Motor Speech Laboratory in the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center
•The participant may be asked to return for future studies in the Motor Speech Lab

What will participation involve?
•We will schedule a time for the participant to come to the lab
•You will fill out a questionnaire before coming into the lab
•A speech and hearing screening will be completed
•We will complete an oral motor (mouth) screening
•The recording session will begin
•We will attach small sensors to the tongue and lips that track movement while speaking
•The participant will read about 250 sentences out loud from a large screen
•The participant will be audio recorded during the session

Will my child be paid for participating?
•Yes! For children ages 10-15, the caregiver who brings the participant will be reimbursed $10 cash for travel expenses. What are the benefits?
•Participation in the study will contribute information that benefits speech research and speech therapy. Are there any risks?
•The risks associated with participation are very minimal
•The participant may find it uncomfortable to have the small sensors inside his/her mouth
•**We can remove the sensors and discontinue the session at any time
