It's the #1 question we get after a LASIK consultation: "How long does it last? Will it wear off?"
Let's clear up one of the biggest myths in vision correction: No, the correction from LASIK does not "wear off." The procedure permanently reshapes your cornea.
So why do some people notice their vision changing years later? The confusion comes from natural, age-related eye changes that are a completely separate process from your LASIK procedure.
In our new, doctor-written guide, we break down what you can really expect long-term. We cover:
βοΈ Why the LASIK correction itself is permanent.
βοΈ The 3 main reasons your vision might change over time (like needing reading glasses after 40).
βοΈ What the long-term research and studies actually say.
If you're considering LASIK, this is a must-read to understand the true longevity of your results.

Let's talk about the #1 question we get about LASIK: "Does my insurance cover it?"
While most insurance plans consider LASIK an elective procedure, that's not the end of the story! You have more options than you might think to make life-changing vision affordable.
We break down the smartest ways to pay, including:
βοΈ Using your pre-tax FSA/HSA dollars (the most popular way to save!)
βοΈ Taking advantage of 0% interest financing plans
βοΈ Checking for special vision plan discounts (we do this for you!)
We've put all the details into a new, comprehensive guide on our blog. If you're considering LASIK, this is a must-read.

Take an exclusive look inside the OR to see how CTAK is changing lives! π¬
We are thrilled to celebrate a massive medical milestone: the 2,000th CTAK procedure was recently performed nationwide, and our very own Dr. Daniel Anderson is proud to be one of the elite surgeons leading the charge right here in Houston! π
Here is how this game-changing, minimally invasive procedure works:
1οΈβ£ We map your eye and use a precise femtosecond laser to create a microscopic channel in the cornea.
2οΈβ£ We carefully insert a piece of preserved, customized corneal tissue.
3οΈβ£ This tissue acts like a scaffold, physically pushing down and flattening the steep keratoconus "cone."
The result? A stronger eye, vastly improved vision, a much easier time fitting specialty contact lenses, and a fast recoveryβall without a full transplant! π
We love seeing these happy post-op smiles! If you or a loved one are struggling with Keratoconus, there is hope. Visit https://www.berkeleyeye.com/eye-care/corneal-tissue-addition-keratoplasty-ctak to learn more about CTAK and schedule a consultation with Dr. Anderson.

It's , and today we're talking about a condition often called the "silent thief of sight": Glaucoma.
In this short video, our glaucoma specialist, Dr. Eunice Yook, shares the three most important things everyone should know about this disease.
Here are the key takeaways:
βοΈ It's Symptomless Early On: Most patients have no idea they have glaucoma until it's detected during a routine eye exam. By the time "tunnel vision" appears, the vision loss is permanent.
βοΈ Treatments Can Prevent Blindness: If caught early, treatments like eye drops, lasers, and surgeries can effectively lower eye pressure and save your vision.
βοΈ Early Detection is Everything: You can't prevent glaucoma, but you can prevent its devastating effects. This is especially crucial if you have a family history of the disease.
The message is clear: your annual eye exam is your single best defense against glaucoma.

Did you know your annual eye exam is one of the most important preventative health screenings you can have?
May is Healthy Vision Month, and we're highlighting a crucial fact: your eyes are a unique window into your overall health. The blood vessels in your retina are the only ones in the entire body that can be seen directly without an incision, revealing early signs of serious systemic diseasesβoften before you notice any other symptoms.
In our new guide, our doctors explain 7 surprising health problems an eye exam can detect, including:
βοΈ Diabetes
βοΈ High Blood Pressure
βοΈ High Cholesterol
βοΈ Brain Tumors & Neurological Issues
Your vision is precious, and so is your health. Learn more about this powerful diagnostic tool by reading our full blog post.

Not all contact lenses are created equal! ποΈ
Take a look at the photos below. If you look at the side-angle shot, you'll see that these custom scleral lenses have a unique "vault" or depth to them.
Standard soft contacts sit directly on the sensitive cornea. But for patients with conditions like Keratoconus, high astigmatism, or Severe Dry Eye, standard lenses simply don't work and can be very uncomfortable.
That's where specialty lenses come in! Scleral lenses are custom-designed to arch over the cornea, resting gently on the white part of your eye. This creates a tiny chamber of soothing saline solution that bathes your eye all day long, providing immense dry eye relief and creating a perfectly smooth surface for crisp, clear vision. π§
If you've ever been told you are "hard to fit" for contacts, don't give up hope. We just launched a brand-new page on our website detailing all the ways our specialty contact lens experts can help!

Itchy, red, watery eyes? Houston's spring allergy season is here, and it can be miserable.
To help you find relief and enjoy the season, our team of Houston eye doctors has put together a list of their top Do's and Don'ts for managing your symptoms.
DO THIS FOR RELIEF:
π Apply a Cold Compress: This provides immediate relief from itching and swelling.
π Wear Protective Sunglasses: Create a physical barrier that keeps pollen from getting into your eyes.
π Use Lubricating Eye Drops (Artificial Tears): They help rinse away allergens and soothe irritation.
AVOID DOING THIS:
π Rub Your Eyes: This is the most common mistake and it will make your symptoms worse by releasing more histamine.
π Wear Your Contact Lenses During a Flare-Up: Allergens get trapped under the lenses. Give your eyes a break and switch to glasses.
π Overuse "Gets the Red Out" Drops: These can cause rebound redness. Stick to lubricating or antihistamine drops instead.
While these tips can provide great relief, sometimes over-the-counter options aren't enough. Our comprehensive blog post explains when it's time to see a doctor for prescription-strength options that can make a dramatic difference.
