Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, celebrated each May, acknowledges the significant historical and cultural contributions made by people of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States. This commemoration became law when President Jimmy Carter signed the legislation on October 5, 1978. In 1992, under President George H. W. Bush’s administration, a new public law (102-450) officially designated May as Asian/Pacific American Month. It was renamed Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in 2009. .
