EAA Chapter 282
EAA 282 is a local Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association located at Clearwater Executive Airport (KCLW).

282 held our monthly Young Aviators meeting on Sunday afternoon. We took a break from our pancake griddle construction project and did a Q&A followed by flights. The kids really have great questions and it’s cool to be able to go show them the answers to their questions in the plane.
“What are G-forces?” became a demonstration in the plane of steep turns and lazy 8’s.
“What does the rudder do?” turned into showing what it’s like to make a coordinated turn and how a side slip is used for crosswind landings.
No great pictures because we were flying!
EAA 282 is moving our monthly meeting location for the summer to have a more comfortable experience. Below is the email sent to our members, but for anyone not on our list, we’d love to have you join us. Dinner is optional and our requested donation is voluntary so don’t let that keep you from checking us out.
Good morning everyone,
I wanted to send this separate email to ensure everyone receives important information about our upcoming meeting, in case you miss it in the newsletter.
As much as we've enjoyed meeting at the hangar, the Florida summer brings unpredictable weather, bugs, and heat. To make things more comfortable, we're moving the meeting location to Johnny's Italian Restaurant at 2907 FL-590, just down the road. Finding a suitable and affordable venue has been a challenge, but this option offers a separate conference room equipped with a projector, TV, restroom, and serving area. We'll have a dedicated server for our group, which should make things easier than last year's experience at Chili's.
Dinner will be provided and includes three entrees, salad, and bread. Johnny's has kindly lowered their usual buffet price for us. To cover costs and support the chapter, we're asking for donations of $25 per person or $40 per family. Just a little more than we ask for at the hangar, but without the sweat and yelling over fans like last month! If we don't collect enough, the chapter will need to cover the shortfall, so we're hoping to see the same large group. I wanted to share these details in advance and look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.
Topics for the presentations will be:
-RV8 build bio from Paul Antoinette from Chapter 1602 at Whitted. He's been flying YE with us and has agreed to show us his build experiences
-Bruce will give a presentation on the Light Sport Maintenance Repairman training he attended along with VMC/IMC
-Safety Briefing scenarios for discussion
-Updates on the airport and kid's group

Another day of activity at EAA 282 with the Young Aviators meeting today. We are working on our pancake grill, learning metal working, wood working, fabrication and welding. All things that build core skills at the heart of EAA.
We hope to finish in the next two meetings and start having fly ins at the airport when we’re done. The kids are doing great and we’re very proud of their work.
We gave a lesson on airspace, runway ops, and compass use and did our “one-question” homework assignment where each kid brings something for discussion. Thank you to the parents for bringing them to the airport. We have as much fun as they do.

Well that’s a wrap until fall! We flew 39 kids with the help pilots from eaa 282, the 99s, and eaa 1602 today. Thank you to all of the people who volunteer their time and resources to make the events a success by marshaling planes, escorting parents and kids on the ramp, cooking breakfast, registrations, check-in’s, and flying. There’s a lot that goes into each event and it takes the whole gang. See you in September, with registration opening in August. Check here or our website for updates.
For those who are registered for our Young Eagles rally tomorrow, check your email for info and we’ll see you in the morning!

What a great turnout last night! We had several new folks join us and hope they enjoyed it. Thank you to everyone who comes out to support the chapter and hope you enjoyed the meeting.
EAA 282 is having our last Young Eagles rally of the season on May 16th. We have 9 pilots and would like to see if anyone else is available to fly with so we can up the registration. Contact us through FB or our website if you’re interested. For any pilots who have not flown one of these events, it’s an extremely rewarding day to take a kid flying who’s never been. We do our best to fly front-seats only, so the more pilots the better!
