Coach: “Stick to the game plan.”

Me: “What if I do something cool instead?” 🤔😂

What exactly is Poomsae? 🤔

If you’re new to TaeKwonDo, Poomsae (forms) is a series of choreographed movements that combine blocks, strikes, kicks, and stances into a set pattern. Think of it as practicing techniques against an imaginary opponent while focusing on precision, balance, power, and control.

But Poomsae is about more than just memorizing movements. It teaches discipline, attention to detail, confidence, and the ability to stay focused under pressure. Every form tells a story of growth, with each new pattern challenging students to refine both their technique and their mindset.

Whether a student dreams of competing or simply wants to become a stronger martial artist, Poomsae helps build the foundation for success in every aspect of TaeKwonDo.

Who’s Watching You?

In every class, there are students watching closely. Not just the instructors—but the older students standing beside them.

They watch how you train when things get difficult. They watch how you handle mistakes. They watch how you treat your teammates, listen to instruction, and carry yourself on and off the mat.

Leadership isn’t a title. It’s a responsibility.

The younger students in these photos and videos are learning more than kicks and punches. They’re learning what it means to be disciplined, respectful, and resilient by following the example set by those who came before them.

Every action sends a message. The question is: What message are you sending to those who are watching you?

What an incredible day of learning, exploration, and fun at the NC Science Museum! 🔬🦖🌎

Our students had the opportunity to experience science in a hands-on way, discovering everything from fascinating exhibits to amazing wildlife and interactive displays. Field trips like these give our students a chance to learn together outside the dojang, build friendships, and see how curiosity and discipline extend far beyond martial arts.

A special thank you to Mr. Brandon for providing our group with an outstanding behind-the-scenes tour and helping make this experience one our students won’t forget. We are grateful for parents who share their time, talents, and passion with our community.

Great martial artists are lifelong learners, and today was a perfect reminder that there is always something new to discover!

Kicking off Week 2 at the Science Museum!

The basics aren’t exciting. They don’t earn instant results, and they rarely get the spotlight. But every powerful kick, every confident performance, and every black belt achievement is built on a foundation of basic techniques practiced over and over again.

Mastering the fundamentals isn’t about doing simple things—it’s about doing simple things exceptionally well. The students who commit to the basics today are the ones who will stand out tomorrow.

Never underestimate the power of a strong foundation.

This picture tells a simple story.

A few students are kicking the standing bag, while a few others cheer them on. But if we look a little closer, we can see not only who they are today, but who they will become.

The students cheering were once the kickers themselves—new, eager, and motivated. Through years of training, they have grown into leaders. Now they carry the responsibility of returning what was once given to them: guidance, support, and encouragement.

It’s a simple story, but it’s one I’m proud to watch unfold in our dojang each and every day.

Strong leaders aren’t built overnight. They are built slowly through consistency, service, and a commitment to helping others succeed.

Leaders built slowly are leaders built strong.

Summer camp is about more than just activities—it’s about building connections.

Whether it’s meeting someone new for the first time or strengthening friendships that started on the mats, these moments matter. Watching our campers cheer each other on, share laughs, and create memories together is one of the best parts of the week.

From the bowling lanes to every adventure in between, summer camp gives students the chance to grow their confidence, expand their circle of friends, and become part of something bigger than themselves.

The friendships built here often last long after camp is over. 🎳☀️

This is Tavalis. He was among the first to enroll in classes when we first opened, spending many hours training and enjoying our summer camp. This fall he joined us as a volunteer supporting our afterschool students and this summer he gets to give back as part of our summer camp staff. He’s taken full advantage of the opportunity to create a summer of great memory for today’s campers. After over 10 years, it is incredibly rewarding to see students from the past become today’s leaders. This Fall he heads off to Mount Olive University on a soccer scholarship. He might have got just a few of his kicks from us 😉

I like this moment.

Not because of the kick that’s about to happen, but because of everything that came before it.

Most people see belt testing as a chance to show what they’ve learned. I see it as a reflection of all the days nobody sees. The days you came to class tired. The days you didn’t feel like training. The days when progress felt slow.

What stands out here is the focus. No looking around. No distractions. Just a student taking a second to gather themselves and trust the work they’ve put in.

Those quiet moments say a lot about how far someone has come.
