I long ago eliminated dairy (except cheese) from my diet and replaced it with soy milk products. I find they are far more digestible and have a greater range of nutritional benefits.

Publications, articles and videos on soy and breast cancer

I have always been asked how to deal with doctors and healthcare practitioners who prohibit the consumption of soy products and continue to perpetuate the debunked myth that soy increases breast cancer risk.

I have compiled a list of peer-reviewed publications from major journals (Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), British Journal of Cancer, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Journal of Nutrition and American Journal of Clinical Nutrition) that report on the results of the most recent human clinical trials on the effect of soy consumption on breast cancer risk.

I have also included peer-reviewed publications on the effect of the lunasin soy peptide on breast cancer cells and metastasis.

Also on the list are news media articles and videos on the safety of soy and its preventive effects on breast cancer.

A lot of medical and naturopathic doctors are grossly misinformed and uneducated on this topic. If doctors insist that soy consumption is bad because it promotes breast cancer, I suggest to ask them to provide you with any peer-reviewed publications, articles and human clinical results that support their contention and contradict these recent human clinical trials. If they can’t, then they should be told that they are wrong and maybe doing more harm to their patients by perpetuating the myth that soy causes human breast cancer and is bad for breast cancer survivors.

Here are some recent publications, articles and videos debunking the claim of doctors and anti-soy proponents that soy promotes breast cancer.

How Covid-19 evades anti-viral response in human cells

Humans have evolved and developed an elaborate immune system to defend and help the body fight back against viruses, other microscopic pathogens and environmental insults.

To keep up, the ever-evolving viruses found ways to evade human immune defenses by taking advantage of our most vulnerable and most conserved cellular protein targets, the N-terminal tails of histones (packaging material of DNA).

As part of the complex regulation of the immune system, the epigenetic control of immunity genes involved in defending against viral infection is modulated by specific modifications to the histone tails.

Corona viruses like, SARS-CoV-2 (virus causing Covid-19), SARS-CoV-1, BAT CoV and influenza viruses contain small linear peptides in their envelope proteins that mimic the histone H3 tail (see attached image and recent paper from Nature). These viral histone mimics are able to bind and sequester key histone-binding regulators such as BET (bromodomain and extra terminal domain) proteins that are required for the activation of antiviral genes. As a result, corona viruses like SARS-CoV-2 can inhibit expression of anti-viral genes, suppress host immune defenses and proceed with infection.

Put simply, by producing a short peptide that mimics histone H3 tail fragment, SARS-CoV-2 is able to outwit our body’s immune defenses and take over cells to propagate themselves and cause Covid-19 infection.

The viral epigenetic interference on our immune system provides new treatment targets and solutions against corona and influenza virus infection. Besides BET inhibitors, it would also be interesting to determine whether the histone-binding seed peptide, lunasin, can help mitigate infection by neutralizing viral histone mimics.
