I Love MY Rabun County
This page is for those who love Rabun County. Please share your photos, stories or what you love most about Rabun County. Our mountains and lakes are beautiful.
A citizen driven effort to express publicly our love for this wonderful land.
Our rivers and rapids are spectacular. Our air is like breathing fine wine. What we love about Rabun County though is our people and our businesses. They are what makes this place so special. You don't just live here. You belong here. Like the line from "Cheers", Rabun is where "everybody knows your name."
I have been stewing for the last ten days or so. I was shocked to read Bob Fink's interview in the Clayton Tribune. In that interview, Bob insulted most of us folks who have made Rabun County our home.
I have been a friend of Bob's going on 19 years. We were in Rotary together. We worshipped together. Vicky and I have eaten meals with him and, when his son died of prostate cancer a few years back, we cried together.
The Bob Fink, in that interview, was not the Bob Fink I knew and know.. He is so much better than that.
Then it struck me. Bob was not being serious. He was being "tongue in cheek" funny. That humor works in person... not in print. it came across as insulting, belittling, caustic, and sarcastic. I like many of you was offended because I had personally endorsed Bob on this FB Page.
One of my strong suits is a sense of humor. Most times it is a blessing... Sometimes it a curse. I have hurt many folks with it... not intentionally but hurtful never the less. The only thing one can do is apologize and resolve to never make the same mistake again... and go to make another.
I still love My Rabun County. I still love my friend, Bob Fink.
Whaddayathink?
Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2014--- Go Forth and do Great Things :)
Are the schools in Rabun County open today? If so, who made that decision?
To those who are supporting Jimmy Loudermilk, feel free to post positive comments about Mr. Loudermilk here. We welcome your input.
We went to the Crusade for Christ at the Arena last night. Terrific... 5 Stars... Well done! Tonight is the last night. Why not go to the Arena at 6:30PM? Good things are happening there... real good things.
To those who are supporting Mr. Loudermilk please feel free to post your POSITIVE comments here. I am sure he is a good man. Let's hear from you.
I've been to Revivals before but none like the one going on at Baptist Tabernacle Church. Tonight is the last night. The 'preaching' will be on "Is America in Biblical Prophecy?" Starts at 7PM. Come early though. I anticipate a full house for this exciting and controversial presentation.
Life Lesson Learned: That which is ugly can be made beautiful.
As you go North on 441, look (quickly) at the curb on the right. There is a long row go Daffodils which were planted years ago by Dr. Andy Anderson, retired Headmaster of Rabun Gap School. Because of his advanced age, Andy has moved to Columbus, Georgia to be near his children. While Andy no longer lives here his love for this place remains and blooms every spring.
I thank God for Andy and all the folks who make this place so very special. Well done Andy!
Tomorrow night is the last night of Revival at Tabernacle Baptist. The subject will be, "Is America Mentioned in Biblical Prophecy?"
Come early. Seating is limited and we expect a full house.
I am tired of collecting "stuff". Once you have some "stuff", it breeds more "stuff". Where can I go to get my money back?

Spring is on the way...we think! Once we get over the typical little ‘ole ice storm and the daffodils shed their ice we know that spring is just around the corner in Clayton, Ga. in the beautiful Northeast Georgia Mountains just 90 minutes from Atlanta, Asheville, NC or even Greenville, SC! Talk about a convenient place to live without all the hassle of the big cities, but they are sure close to us!
If you’ve ever driven, for instance, from Atlanta towards Rabun County, you will notice that the actual downtown of Clayton is not on the four-lane Highway 441 so slow down as you approach Clayton and turn left on Savannah Street at the Dairy Queen and go up two blocks to our quaint, historic downtown!
For the last 15 years, the official kick-off of the season is Celebrate Clayton a huge, two-day art, music, food and garden festival on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. and Sunday, April 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., rain or shine! Celebrate Clayton showcases over 125 regional artists of all mediums: pottery, fabric art, metal, stone, jewelry, ceramics, glass and paintings.
When your feet get tired of walking on Main Street, sit a spell to listen to the continuous live music from bluegrass to light rock to folk and blues. Gals, leave your husbands at the band area with some tempting food (did I hear funnel cake mentioned?) or at the block-long Reeves Hardware Store and head on into the cute shops offering clothing, gardening items, accessories, home décor and antiques...oh, there are so many new shops and upscale boutiques to put the finishing touches on your day of art, food, music and garden decor!
Stop in at one of our many restaurants in the festival area downtown for a great meal: Universal Joint with a great outdoor patio; Zeppelins for pasta, fish, steaks and flatbread pizza; Fortify Kitchen and Bar with Farm-to-Table fare; or Rumor Hazit with another outdoor deck and a killer grouper sandwich among its many offerings. Head to Clayton Café for good homestyle fried chicken for lunch or our exquisite Laurel Bar and the White Birch Inn. Fromage and Other Fine Foods restaurant offers homemade gourmet sandwiches, salads, entrees, soups and desserts along with a glass of wine to soothe your shopping aches. Along the way is Grapes & Beans, a cute café using local and organic ingredients.
Once you see Clayton and Rabun County you will want to come back to check our lakes, second homes and outdoor activities – www.downtownclaytonga.org www.explorerabun.com
