Did you know a propane detector detects flammable propane leaks, usually from appliances or tanks? It must be installed near the floor because propane is heavier than air. A
Carbon Monoxide (CO) Detector detects the toxic, odorless gas
caused by incomplete combustion (e.g., from a furnace or generator). It should be placed higher, near sleeping areas or on the ceiling, as CO is similar in weight to air, say Reddit users.
Not Interchangeable: A CO detector cannot detect a propane leak, and a propane detector cannot detect carbon monoxide. As always, we encourage having fuel burning systems checked out by a licensed professional once a year to ensure that you are safe and for peace of mind.
