🖍️ Collector Tip:

Did you know crayons can be dated?

Both of these are Crayola Brick Red crayons. Same color. Same name.

Different logo.
Different wrapper.
Different era.

The older wrapper is likely from the 1960s-1970s. The newer one is likely from the 1980s-1990s.

And if you swipe to the eBay screenshot, you’ll see why collectors pay attention to retired colors and older versions.

I’m currently sitting on my bed sorting through a family tin of crayons looking for retired colors, old logos, and hidden collectibles. 😂

Just a reminder that sometimes the difference between junk and collectible is knowing what you’re looking at.

The Happy may be closed, but we’re still out and about. ❤️

One of the best parts of being in a small town is running into so many of you wherever we go. Every wave, conversation, and “Hey, aren’t you from The Happy?” fills our hearts more than you know.

This week the boys (Tater and Bill) brought home quite the conversation piece. These old railroad waiting room doors were purchased at an auction, and we have reason to believe they may have come from either the Hugo train depot or possibly the Antlers train depot. The lettering and history behind them certainly tell a story from a difficult chapter of American history.

We’re hoping some of our friends here at The Happy might know more. Have you seen these before? Do you know where they came from? Have family stories, photos, or local knowledge that could help us trace their history?

The boys actually bought them for a special friend in Louisiana who has an extensive collection of historical artifacts related to segregation and civil rights history. They’ll be making the trip south to deliver them in the near future.

We also understand that pieces like this can bring up strong feelings and painful memories. Our intention isn’t to celebrate this part of history, but to preserve it. History, even the uncomfortable parts, deserves to be remembered so future generations can learn from it. These doors are a reminder of how things once were, how far we’ve come, and why we should never allow ourselves to go backward.

Whether you see them as a historical artifact, a teaching tool, or simply a piece of railroad history, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

And if anyone can help solve the mystery of where these doors came from, we know this page is full of people who can. ❤️
