City Council; June 9, 2026.
📊Yesterday evening, we kicked off at 5:00 PM with a special meeting dedicated to a detailed presentation of the 2026-2028 Proposed City Operating and Capital Improvement Program Budget. A massive thank you to our incredible city staff for their tireless dedication. Countless hours went into crafting a comprehensive plan that we hope will be another award-winning budget. It truly reflects our core priorities and answers the evolving needs of our residents and neighborhoods.
👉Directly following at 6:30 PM, we transitioned into our regular City Council meeting. Before addressing the budget, we moved forward on several key community items, beginning with special recognition for the Glanville Grill Foundation and the Friends of the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park for their generous donation of new restrooms. We also approved critical infrastructure and facility upgrades, authorizing architectural design and consulting adjustments for the Claremont Police Department Women's Locker Room Facility project. Additionally, we prioritized essential support for our seniors by amending our agreement with AgingNext to expand and secure vital senior case management services through 2027.
🧡Most importantly, we officially adopted the city budget for the next two fiscal years. This milestone ensures the funding needed to pave our walkways, expand our public safety team, and bring modern, proactive protection tools to our neighborhoods. The work to keep Claremont safe, vibrant, and beautiful doesn't wait, and we are officially ready for the chapter ahead.

This morning, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the 's “Business Over Breakfast” event! ☕️🍳
It was a wonderful morning of connection and meaningful dialogue. I had a fantastic time exchanging ideas with local business owners, Chamber representatives, and our dedicated city leadership, including our hard-working city staff, and fellow Claremont City Council members. Collaborative mornings like this remind me how fortunate we are to have such an involved team guiding our municipality.
A huge congratulations goes to Laura Gallardo for being named the Chamber’s Ambassador of the Quarter! 🎉 I also want to extend my deep gratitude to all of the Chamber Ambassadors who volunteer their time and energy to promote the Chamber’s vital work in supporting our thriving network of more than 1,800 local businesses.
Furthermore, applause is in order for all of the incredible nominees for the 2026 Business of the Year award who were presented today.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of checking out the wonderful "Get a Scoop from a Cop" event at in the heart of the Claremont Village! 🍦👮♂️
It was fantastic to visit the 's stand, connect with the dedicated board members, and chat with residents stopping by to learn more about how the Foundation supports our local law enforcement. I couldn’t resist grabbing a scoop of ice cream, especially since the team at Bert & Rocky's generously donated 10% of all sales throughout the event directly to the Foundation. ☀️🕶️
It is always a pleasure to highlight the incredible initiatives, such as the Claremont Police Foundation's Youth Explorer Program. The Foundation truly invests in these young people by providing them with vital law enforcement education and skills for future success, while funding scholarships for participants attending the Explorer academy, college, or trade school.
A huge thank you to Bert & Rocky's for their incredible generosity, and to our police officers, not only for serving up some delicious ice cream yesterday afternoon but for the unwavering dedication, protection, and service you provide to our community every single day! 🙌

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the 's 2026 Annual Chamber TopGolf Tournament at Topgolf Ontario ! 🏌️♂️⛳️
It was an incredible day of friendly competition, community building, and networking. Big congratulations to all of our tournament winners! The best dressed team absolutely crushed it with their fantastic, high-energy 80s-themed costumes. The talented team at Bay 321 dominated the leaderboard to take home the highest score, and the team at Bay 323 brought a lot of heart, scoring 57 points to earn the most fun award of the day for placing last.
Our team, which included Claremont City Councilmember Corey Calaycay (), the international students he is hosting this year, Steven Kim, and my intern, Máté Mali (.mali16) had an absolute blast out on the green!
An event this seamless and memorable is only possible because of the hard work happening behind the scenes. A special thank you to the Claremont Chamber of Commerce for organizing such a vibrant, dynamic, and wonderfully executed tournament. A busy, highly productive day of regional leadership and community collaboration across the San Gabriel Valley ! 💼📈
We kicked off Wednesday morning with the SGVCOG Executive Board meeting, which I had the honor of chairing. We tackled governance topics, including the LACAHSA Board Member Appointee Recommendation process and the evolving Metro Board Governance Structure.
Immediately following, we transitioned into our Transportation Committee meeting to address the infrastructure and transit needs of our communities. We focused on several key items:
* FIFA 2026 World Cup Prep: Reviewing Metrolink event readiness, shuttle logistics, congestion management, and safety protocols to ensure our region is ready for the world stage.
* Budgeting & Transit Reports: Discussing the LA Metro FY 2027 budget, alongside critical updates from our LA Metro and Foothill Transit Liaisons.
* Gold Line Update: As the Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority Liaison, I was proud to provide a progress report on our continued rail expansion.
I also had the distinct pleasure of officially introducing Máté Mali (.mali16) to the SGVCOG team! Máté is a political science graduate student hailing from Paris, France, who will be interning with me for the next six months. We are thrilled to have his perspective and dedication on board as he dives into Southern California policy! 🇪🇺🇺🇸
To wrap up a great day, following a virtual meeting with the California Contract Cities Association Executive Board, I headed over to the South Pasadena City Council Chambers. It was a wonderful opportunity to discuss South Pasadena’s vital role within the COG and present a well-deserved award to the city for their partnership and dedication to our region. 🏆✨
Progress happens when we work together across city lines. Thank you to all of our regional leaders, staff, and partners for an incredible day of moving the San Gabriel Valley forward!

As President of the SGVCOG, representing our 31 cities and 2 supervisorial districts, it is always an honor to lead discussions that directly impact the future of our region.
