Let me tell y’all what happened at my vendor table… 😂

A gentleman stops by and admires a cowboy hat. He tells me he has several hats, but he doesn’t have a red one like the one he’s admiring.
He tries it on. 👀
He likes it.
Then he asks, “How much is it?”
I politely tell him, “$75.”
He looks at me and says…
“How low are you willing to go?”
😐
I gave him the blankest stare known to mankind before responding:
“$75.” 😂😂😂

Now, let’s have a conversation.
Can we normalize respecting the price the first time it’s given?

There is a difference between negotiating and automatically assuming the price is negotiable.
As small business owners, we put thought into our pricing. We consider the cost of the item, sourcing, time, transportation, vendor fees, overhead, packaging, and the value of what we're offering.
And honestly, I have to ask:

Why do some people feel more comfortable trying to negotiate small business owners—especially Black entrepreneurs—down from our asking price?
