I’m finally ready to launch a newsletter! After years of talking about it, issue #1 is ready.

Something a little more personal and a little slower. Like my Instagram during Covid, but with a special invitation and a little less social media scrolling.

This will be a place where I share what’s happening inside the studio and around our table. The work I’m creating, the stories we’re telling, what I’m learning, where I’ve been, and the seasons of life I’ve been trying to hold onto a little longer these days.

That means a little talk about portraiture, maybe some about motherhood, and definitely more talk about tacos at the kitchen counter.

But it will always be personal.

It’s called At the Table - Letters from Natalie Grilli.

A few times a year, I’ll be sending thoughtful letters about portraiture, family, creativity, travel, food, legacy, and ordinary life worth keeping.

I’d love to save you a seat at the table.

About Thursday night...

Around 50 people filled (the venue next to ) to celebrate the women of The Legacy Project. Women who have rebuilt, reinvented, survived, started over, become mothers, lost themselves, found themselves again, and are finally allowing themselves to be seen.

And... it was magic.

People stood in front of portraits reading every word of the stories of the women in the project. Friends teared up. Spouses looked at their wives differently. Women saw pieces of themselves in other women they had never even met.

One guest told me he kept looking at the portraits feeling like he recognized the women, even if he had never met them before. We realized it was because of the way they were photographed. The way they were looking back at him. Real. Honest. Familiar.

That comment meant everything to me because that is exactly what I hoped people would feel.

There were tears while women read their stories. There was champagne, incredible food, hugs, laughter, and more than one person asking if this was something I had done before because it felt too good to have been the first.

And maybe that was the biggest takeaway from the night.

This project was needed.

People kept asking when the next one would be. Men wanted their turn. Couples were suggested. New themes were already being imagined before the night was even over.

So if you missed it, don’t worry. There will be more.
Thank you to every woman who trusted me with her story. Thank you to every friend, spouse, child, and family member who came to celebrate them. Thank you to everyone who stood in front of a portrait a little longer than they expected to.

Your story matters.

And you are a work of art.
