Well it finally happened...we accidently double booked ourselves Friday night!😂
A couple of us joined P3 - Paula's Paranormal Project in Metamora, IN and the rest of the team went to Haunted Broadwell Funeral Home!! Stay tuned for that post!
Metamora is a hidden gem inside and outside the paranormal community. This little historic town is jam packed with stories of all kinds. After dark it does not disappoint. We had great activity and you can tell the spirits are learning how to use the equipment, which is super cool!
Unfortunately the town was flooded recently pretty bad. They are still pumping out basements and cleaning things up. There is a QR code you can scan to help with relief if you feel inclined to do so. Otherwise go on out and support the local shops and restaurants. They could really use it right now!
We have loved this place for a long time and think it's definitely worth checking out! So thank you Paula for bringing us back once again and thank you Robin for getting us into some of the buildings.
If you're interested in hearing some of the town's ghost stories take Robin's tour at Whispers on the Canal Ghost Tours!!

So our return to Stone Mansion a couple weeks ago started off with a bang...literally! The plaster molding in the piano room fell from the ceiling before we could even start the tour!😱
🔍Investigation
We had some newbies with us, so while they went on the tour others started to set equipment up. Not long after, a couple of our team members were in the basement where one of them saw who we assume is Wendy. She described a little girl in a white dress behind one of our other members by the steep (original?) basement steps. We weren't even finished setting everything up yet!
Because of this experience we decided to head to the basement first. Knowing there might be a little girl hanging around, we got out boo bear and the coloring book and crayons. We set some flashlights and cat balls out as well. Throughout our session down there we seemed to get intelligent responses through the flashlights and estes method. Whoever we were talking to seemed to maybe prefer females over males.
Once things seemed to quiet down we went up to the Lydia's room. We definitely got some flashlight interaction with some estes method responses as well. Nothing too crazy though, so we headed up to the attic. Not much happened there. Maybe a few more repsonses through estes, but mostly quiet so we went back downstairs to take a break.
After break we decided to split into two groups. The boys and the girls. The girls started in the basement since earlier we felt they were more drawn to females down there. And the boys stayed in the living room area.
They didn't get much there, so they moved to Lydia's room where they may have gotten some EVP's. Again pretty quiet so they headed to the General's room next. Sounds like they had some very interesting conversations in there lol. Finally they headed back down to the basement. They were getting some sparce answers, but kept getting told how they were struggling to communicate. Whoever they were interacting with seemed to keep pulling them towards the back room.
For us girls things were also more quiet than before. We even tried to play some games with the rope light, but someone just seemed to mock us doing the hokey pokey through estes lol. They finally did figure the rope light out though which was very cool! We then went back up to Lydia's room where we seemed to actually make contact with someone. The rope light went off like crazy in response to our conversations and the flashlights were consistently being played with as well. The spirit didn't like the boys interrupting girl's night a couple times including once where they ran up thinking they heard a scream...it was probably just us laughing.
After a while the boys came back up and told us girls we needed to come back to the basement in the back room with them. Whoever was back there definitely was not shy! Even with everyone in that tiny room. They had all three flashlights going on and off when we asked. The cat balls were flashing and we had a very interesting estes session to close out the night.
📚History
The mansion was designed by General Asahel Stone for himself and his wife Lydia. He spared no expense, which you can see in all the little details if you ever visit. All the marble fireplaces are made of imported Carrara marble (the quarry Michelangelo got all his marble from!). They lived there from 1872 until they both passed away in the early 1890s. Both the General and his wife are buried in Fountain Park Cemetery in Wi******er.
After Lydia passed the mansion changed hands quite a bit. Over time it has been converted into apartments and even a restaurant! Now an organization called STOP (Save the Old Properties) owns the mansion. They have been working hard to restore the property to its former glory.

Yesterday a couple of us attended a public hunt at Pennhurst Asylum (Pennhurst Estate School & Hospital). A misunderstood place that had it's ups and downs.
🔍Investigation
We started our night with a history tour. Learning the true history of the place was fascinating. Just getting to see the grounds and buildings was amazing as well.
Once released for our free roam, we ended up in the basement of Limerick first. We had some flashlight play down there and might have heard some footsteps behind us, but moved on when it seemed to get quiet.
The second spot we found ourselves was the Mayflower building. We went down in the basement first there too and ended up in the music room with one of the guides. She had a rope light that was going off as we were chatting. They seemed to like our game of "jump rope", jumping in and out of the circle of lights with us. The spirits also seemed really excited when she played them some music. The rest of our experience in the building was quiet, but it was super cool to explore.
Next up was the Quaker building. This time we went up first and explored. We set up in a big room at the end of the building, but didn't seem to make any contact so we decided to move on. When we got to the basement there was a group of people getting some activity down there. They had a flashlight responding to questions and conversation. Their estes session sounded like it was pretty active before we got down there and when they went to clean up the rem pod would not stop going off. The spirits down there were definitely being pretty silly and kinda sassy for sure.
Our last stop was the Devon building. We went in the basement first and ended up sitting in the crossroads of one of the halls after talking with one of the guides. There didn't seem to be any intelligent response necessarily, but we did have flashlights going off. It seemed like maybe someone was walking up and down the hallway. After that, it was towards the end of our night so we went upstairs and just explored.
It was a little hard to investigate with so many people on the property, but I'm so grateful we got the chance to experience Pennhurst...given the current circumstances. It was such a great night even with the rain!
📚History
During it's time, places like Pennhurst were built to segregate disabled people or anyone society deemed "abnormal". It opened in 1908 and was first known as the Eastern Pennsylvania Institution for the Feeble Minded and Epileptic.
Pennhurst seemed like it would be a state of the art facility if you will. They were to have a school, a gym, a work shop, and a hospital. But it was only built to hold 500 patients, which they quickly outgrew. The staff cared very much for the people living there, but this was only the start of the issues they would face.
Around 1912 the feeble minded and people with epilepsy were deemed different groups who needed different treatments. It took several years, but they finally dropped epileptic from the name and only accepted feeble minded people.
To help with the growing patient number, they did end up opening a female campus as well. This would be completely separate from the male campus that was originally built and part of how they practiced eugenics at Pennhurst. They never conducted any sterilization, but they did keep patients away from society and from pro-creating in order to remove those genes from the gene pool.
Pennhurst's population peaks at about 3,500 patients by 1955. Two annex facilities allowed that number to grow to about 4,100 total. Some patients were moved to these other facilities though, dropping the main campus to about 3,200 by 1961.
It was around this time where things started to really go down hill. Pennhurst was hit with funding cuts and ultimately staffing cuts. This did not help the overcrowding situation at all. The staff left was doing all they could to care for everyone at the facility, but unfortunately there were not enough hands to go around. Patients were often forgotten and left to sit in their own filth.
In 1968 these conditions were exposed by Bill Baldini in a five part tv news report. This was the first time the public would see what was happening at Pennhurst. Which would lead to multiple court cases where the forced institutionalization of disabled people would be found unconstitutional. The facility closed by 1987. Before closing though, they made sure that all patients had homes and everything they needed to support them if they wanted it.

Thank you to all of the guides and staff for giving us an amazing night! They were all very knowledgeable and inviting when investigating.

Almost one year exactly, we visited the Old Blackford County Jail again. Always such a fun time here!
🔍Investigation
This time around we didn't split up as much. We started in the cell area where we might have had some EMF spikes, but not much else. So we decided to move upstairs instead.
Up in the jail side we had some pretty interesting estes sessions. One of which might have been referring to the Monroe House down the street? Later we must have tuned into the mental health channel or something because they were telling us to "close your eyes...breathe...deeply". Then they said attach and we were done there lol.
Okay now here's the highlight of the night. We're still upstairs on the jail side doing estes again. All of a sudden some pretty sus responses started coming through...seemingly directed at a specific member of our team. From what we gathered he had a date the next Saturday morning with a young lady possibly named Fergus. And Fergus was getting pretty wild at times! So that begs the question, have you ever been hit on by a ghost?
After that we went back down to the cell area to see if anyone wanted to talk then. In hopes to draw up some energy we dealt out a blackjack game. They seem to love playing cards at the jail. The music box started going off, responding to our game and banter.
The rest of the night was pretty quiet. A few of us decided to sleep for a few hours before driving back home. Two of us slept in the actual cells which was pretty cool! All in all a good night!
📚History
This was a working jail from 1879 to 1995. Fully equipped with regular cells, a drunk tank and solitary confinement in the basement. One of the current owners even worked at the jail at one point before buying the property.
The front part of the building would have been where the sheriff and his family lived with the actual jail being in the back. Many people have passed through those walls, each with their own story.
The most notable probably being James Barrett who supposedly robbed banks with the sheriff at the time, Ira Barton. James was supposed to go to trial, but was found hung in his cell one day. No one knows if this was su***de or murder. Maybe you can find out if you ever visit.

Yet again, thank you to all of the STOP staff for allowing us to continue investigating their properties! We highly recommend booking with them, so check them out!
