Sometimes life doesn't go the way we thought it would....
Sometimes relationships change.
Sometimes doors close.
Sometimes we're disappointed by decisions that were made.
Sometimes we don't get the opportunity or outcome we had hoped for.
And yes, sometimes that hurts.
But what we do with that hurt matters.
As Christians, we cannot allow disappointment to become bitterness, and we cannot allow bitterness to become discord.
We can be hurt without hurting others.
We can disagree without dishonoring people.
We can be disappointed without tearing down what we once valued.
We can walk away without making someone else the enemy.
And perhaps most importantly, we have to learn to be okay when things don't go the way we hoped or planned.
That doesn't mean we pretend something didn't hurt. It doesn't mean we can't acknowledge disappointment or learn from difficult experiences.
It means we don't allow those experiences to define our character.
Forgiveness isn't always about saying what happened was okay. Sometimes forgiveness is simply choosing not to carry the offense into the next season God is calling us into.
I know this because I've had to learn it myself.
There have been plenty of times in my life when I didn't understand why a door closed, why a relationship changed, or why something I deeply hoped for didn't happen the way I envisioned it.
But I've learned that God doesn't need me to understand every ending in order for me to trust Him with what's next. And I don't want to become so focused on what didn't happen that I miss what God is doing now.
We are called to be people of grace.
People of forgiveness.
People who can speak truth without tearing others down.
People who can leave a situation without sowing discord behind us.
Because not every disappointment needs an enemy.
Sometimes it just needs forgiveness.
Sometimes it needs grace.
And sometimes it simply needs us to trust God enough to say, "This wasn't what I planned, but I trust You with what comes next." đź’ś
