Well, it’s that time of year again! Thankfully, we got through Thanksgiving without too much Christmas interjecting, but now we’re back to “the most wonderful time of the year” (according to Andy Williams - who arguably has the best Christmas song of all time, and is a local Cincinnatian… but I digress).

Anyway, speaking of the most wonderful things, these were made by another great local Cincinnatian - an amazing and beautiful artist (not to mention, wife and mother), .

I know of her diligent, creative, handmade efforts, because she makes everything in her studio (by hand, without all of the newfangled technologies), which resides in our basement.

So, if you’re in the mood for supporting small business and like impressive handmade things, please stop by her shop this holiday season (and every season!). Textiles, prints, jewelry, clothing, felted animals, oil paintings, and more - she does it all!

You can find her brick-and-mortar at 6700 Chestnut Street in Mariemont, Ohio - or visit her online at chestnutstreetmarket.com

Happy holidays!

Well, just like that we’re on to turkeys…

A few snippets from our family calendar this month. Like all of the other months prior, this page will continue expand, evolve, get drawn on, torn, pulled down and rehung again and again - all with little notes, anecdotes and artifacts from our time together. This will be fun to look back on 10 years from now.

Continuing with the Pac-Man theme (from Halloween)… just ran across one of my old toy boxes during a storage reorganization adventure. Man, this one had to have been old, considering my rudimentary drawing skills and little kid toys (apparently I was a fan of Paddington, as I also had a full size bear). Very early 80s for sure. Anyone else remember using old cigar boxes for things? Pretty common way back in the old days, when seemingly everyone smoked.

The dark side of Arnold Lobel, and pretty creepy work overhaul for a kids book. The chapter titles alone are pretty evocative. Great stuff.

I remember trying to read this to my middle daughter when she was a bit younger and not getting very far. Won’t even attempt with my youngest.

The Headless Horseman Rides Tonight (1980) by Jack Pretlutsky. Art by Arnold Lobel.
