It's LGBTQ+ Families Day! It's a day that's near and dear to us here at PFLAG Cincinnati 🫶

Did you know that PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people, their families, and allies? PFLAG was founded in 1973, spurred by the advocacy of Jeanne Manford. Jeanne wanted to create an organization for parents, family, and friends to show support and understanding for their LGBTQ+ loved ones. One mother’s love for her gay son set in motion a domino effect that continues to this day.

The Cincinnati Chapter of PFLAG was founded in 1985 and has provided support to LGBTQ+ Cincinnatians and Northern Kentuckians for over 40 years!

We've offered scholarships to local LGBTQ+ youth since 1992, now named the Tom & Marie Jenkins Memorial Scholarship to honor our long-term community leaders.

Today is Pans*xual and Panromantic visibility day!

Pans*xuality is the s*xual, romantic, or emotional attraction to people regardless of their gender or s*x. Often described as being "gender-blind," pans*xual individuals can be attracted to people of any gender, including men, women, transgender, and non-binary individuals.

To all of our pans*xual and panromantic friends - you are celebrated and loved at PFLAG Cincinnati!

Today is , a day to celebrate the first openly-gay elected official in the United States!

Today, Harvey Milk’s legacy is felt in the gains for LGBTQ+ rights made during the four decades since his assassination. Milk’s nascent vision of increasing worldwide representation in local, statewide, and national political offices peaked with the Rainbow Wave in November of 2018, when a record number of openly gay, le***an, and transgender candidates were elected to public office.

As Milk once declared, “If you help elect more gay people, that gives a green light to all who feel disenfranchised, a green light to move forward…because if a gay person makes it, the doors are open to everyone.”

Milk also recognized that the fight for equality and human rights must continue as long as one person is denied their full measure of freedom, that “there is hope that the system can work for all minorities if we fight. We’ve given them hope.”

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia! 36 years ago today, the World Health Organization declassified homos*xuality as a mental disorder. Today, we celebrate May 17th as a day for global advocacy against violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.
