Balefire Farm
urban farm in Southwest Ohio I grew up in small town northeast of Cincinnati and after college, moved to the city where Balefire Farm was born. And so it began.
I had the vision size doesn't matter and you can have a farm wherever you choose. I love self sufficiency, creativity, nature and the outdoors. Balefire Farm has heritage breed chickens and a garden on a 1/3 of an acre. Hopefully, you will be inspired as you follow along with my successes and failures with urban farming.
We’ve had a 1/10 of an 1” of rain since May 6th. We need this rain so bad! ❤️⛈
Here is a video if one of the incubator chicks trying to make it's way into the world. This baby took about 24 hours from the first "pip" to hatch through.

Clover did it! All four of her babies hatched, and she's loving the other 3 that hatched from the incubator!

This little feisty 6.5 week old speckled Sussex is mean! I moved her to the big coop, and she fought, flapped, charged and pecked me, nearly drawing blood. Seems fitting I named her ginger, since she seems to have no soul! (Kidding...kind of) I hope she's not a he, but it would explain her naughty behavior.

Clover and her eggs were moved into the chicken tractor tonight so she can be a mama without any interruptions. Hatch day is June 15th! She's doing so well, I hope it all works out for her! I can't wait to see how she does with those babies!
I'm hatching eggs from my rooster that went out to my parents farm. Mom gave me 10 fertilized eggs. Some are in the incubator, and clover is sitting on 4 of them, since she insists on becoming a mama. I candled the eggs at day 14, and you can see lots of moment! Hatch day should be June 15th. Fingers crossed everything goes well!
