🌲 Welcome to Wednesday Spotlight! 🌲

We're excited to introduce a new weekly segment here at Forrest Lytle Arborist and Landscape Supplies!

Every Wednesday, we'll be highlighting products, equipment, techniques, safety topics, industry misconceptions, and more. Some weeks it'll be a quick write-up, other weeks we'll have videos or hands-on demonstrations.

Our goal is simple: share what we've learned, answer the questions we hear every day, and help arborists make informed decisions about the equipment they trust their lives to.

And for our very first Wednesday Spotlight, we're tackling a question we've been hearing far too often lately...

"Do you have a cut-proof lanyard?"

The short answer is no.

Despite what many people call them, there is no cut-proof work positioning lanyard in the arborist industry. Every lanyard can be cut under the right conditions.

What many climbers are actually looking for is a wire-core (steel-core) work positioning lanyard. The steel cable inside the lanyard provides increased cut resistance when working around chainsaws, but it does not make the lanyard impossible to cut.

Here's the difference:

🪢 Standard lanyard — Lightweight, flexible, and ideal for many climbing situations.

🦾 Wire-core lanyard — Provides added cut resistance when chainsaw work is involved, but it is still CUT RESISTANT, NOT CUT PROOF.

A wire-core lanyard should never be considered a substitute for safe cutting techniques. Your best protection is always maintaining awareness of where your lanyard is before making every cut.

Words matter when we're talking about life-support equipment.

Calling something "cut proof" can create a false sense of security that simply doesn't belong in tree work.

Have questions about which work positioning lanyard is right for your style of climbing? Stop by Forrest Lytle Arborist Supplies—we're always happy to talk gear and help you find the right setup.

🌲 What arborist topic, misconception, or piece of gear should we tackle next Wednesday? Drop it in the comments!
