🚨Ohio has a new absentee ballot deadline that requires mail-in ballots to arrive by 7:30pm on Election Day.
❌ This new law removes the post-election acceptance window that allowed ballots mailed before Election Day to arrive a few days later.
📬 If you want to vote by mail, request your ballot now so you are one of the first to receive it once your Board of Elections begins mailing them out April 7—absentee ballot request application here, or call your county Board of Elections and ask them to mail you an application:

Understanding the USPS Postmark Policy
Old definition: mail that has been RECEIVED by the post office.
✅ New definition: mail that has been PROCESSED by the post office.
WHY DOES THIS MATTER
🧐 Why does this matter? Because the postmark date is what has been considered legal proof of when someone mailed something, like a bill, document, government form, or 🗳 absentee ballot.
The mail processing date could be days after it was received by the post office.
🛡How to protect your absentee vote? This probably won't have a huge impact on most Ohio voters who vote by mail since absentee ballots must be received by Election Day regardless of when they were mailed, but this is still important information for everyone to have. Here are some ways to help make extra sure your ballot gets to your county Board of Elections on time:
⏰ Request your ballot now— go to ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/absentee-ballot/
💨 Once you get your ballot (usually the first week of early voting if you request it early), fill it out and get it in the mail quickly.
📪 Take your ballot to the post office and ask the postal worker to hand-stamp it with the postmark for that day's date— we understand lots of folks who rely on absentee voting won't be able to get to the post office and that's ok, this is just an added precaution.
🐾 Track your ballot— sign up with your county Board of Elections to get messages telling you that your application and ballot were received.
