Pipe Organ Installed at Kathy’s Happy Organs and Pianos

The public is invited to attend the inaugural of the only pipe organ

installed in a retail setting in Cincinnati. Chris Johnston, local pianist, organist and current caretaker of the Wurlitzer Theater organ in the Music Hall Ballroom will give a short program demonstrating the new pipe organ he and Mike Flanagan are installing at Kathy’s Happy Organs and Pianos in Northgate Mall at 3PM, Sunday, October 26.

Cincinnati has pipe organ installations in several churches, a few private residences, the Museum Center and the huge Wurlitzer organ in the Music Hall Ballroom. This will be the only pipe organ installation in a retail store in Cincinnati, the state of Ohio and maybe the world! There is a magnificent pipe organ in Philadelphia but it is only played on special occasions because Macy’s has had to close that store.

When Kathy’s Happy Organs and Pianos moved into a larger store in Northgate Mall this May, Chris Johnston suggested that the new store had room for a pipe organ. Considering how wonderful it would be for students and customers to experience the thrill of being up close and personal to an actual pipe organ, it didn’t take long for owner Kathy Schwartz to say, “Let’s do it!”
