HOMES 252: Understanding the LEED for Homes Rating System:

OVERVIEW

This 8 hour course provides an introduction to the LEED for Homes rating system and delivery model. The course addresses the intents and requirements of prerequisites and key credits within the rating system while providing real world examples of strategies to meet them. The course also identifies the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders and a LEED for Homes project and is designed to prepare the professional to plan for key considerations and requirements for the LEED certification process. Led by official USGBC LEED FacultyTM who are LEED and facilitation experts, this workshop provides an understanding of the scope of the LEED for Homes rating system. The course examines all prerequisites and credits in LEED for Homes' eight credit categories: Location and Linkages, Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, Indoor Environmental Quality, Materials & Resources, Awareness and Education, and Innovation and Design Process. The workshop introduces all of the credits, going into detail on the goals, intents, requirements, and strategies of prerequisites and select key credits. The course also reinforces understanding of synergies between credits, and provides an overview of the LEED certification process, including basic verification considerations. Throughout the day, participants will engage in discussions and interactive activities based on real-life projects to enforce what is taught about LEED for Homes prerequisites, credits, and concepts. AUDIENCE

This workshop is intended for professionals who are already familiar with LEED (see recommended prior knowledge below). It is appropriate for individuals who are seeking an understanding of the LEED for Homes rating system, whether they are pursuing GBCI's LEED AP Homes credential or simply need to apply the rating system in their job. The course addresses the responsibilities of key stakeholders in LEED for Homes projects, including but not limited to residential owners and managers, builders, architects, designers, subcontractors, engineers, and decision makers who want to better understand specifics of the LEED for Homes rating system. RECOMMENDED PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

To ensure that you make the most of this workshop, you should be familiar with the concepts, elements, and goals of green building and LEED. You should:
•Be an accredited LEED Green Associate or
•Have taken USGBC's LEED Core Concepts & Strategies (available self-paced online or LEED Faculty-led in-person) or be able to meet its learning objectives or
•Have read USGBC's Green Building & LEED Core Concepts Guide

HOMES 401: Green Rater Training:

The two-part LEED for Homes Green Rater Training is designed to prepare qualified participants to provide verification services on LEED for Homes projects. Applicants must meet initial qualifications and complete a two-part training. You must register in advance of the live workshop date. Part 1 of the training consists of five self-guided online training modules that introduce you to the roles and responsibilities of a LEED for Homes Green Rater, discuss applicable technical concepts, discuss verification specifics for various building types, and introduce the participant to the tools and resources that Green Raters will use. Part 2 consist of a two-day instructor-led workshop. This highly interactive workshop builds upon the material presented in the online course, further preparing you to rate on LEED for Homes projects, and delving deep into the verification services you will provide. Following the training, participants will be eligible to register and take the LEED for Homes Green Rater exam administered through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). Those who pass the exam may proceed to complete the required mentorship. Upon successful completion of the mentorship, the participant will be awarded the LEED for Homes Green Rater Certificate. LEED for Homes Green Rater Pathway

The following are key steps to becoming a LEED for Homes Green Rater:

1.Meet the minimum eligibility qualifications.

2.Download eligibility qualifications document (see above link)

3.You must complete, sign, and send this form and the specified documentation to [email protected] prior to attending the 2-day workshop. Applicants who do not meet all requirements will NOT be eligible to become LEED for Homes Green Raters and should not proceed with registration.

4.Complete ONE of the following (You must send appropriate documentation to [email protected] prior to attending the 2-day workshop):
a. LEED for Homes Program Review Webinar Series (submit completion certificate)
b. Earn LEED AP Homes Credential (submit copy of GBCI certificate)

5.Complete the LEED for Homes Green Rater Training (price includes Part 1 and Part 2):
a. Part 1: Full series of self-guided online learning modules (approximately 5 hours)
b. Part 2: Instructor-led LEED for Homes Green Rater Workshop (two fulldays)

6.Register, take and pass the LEED for Homes Green Rater exam administered by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). (Cost for this step includes an additional $50 registration fee and a $250 exam fee.)

7.Obtain exam completion certificate from GBCI

8.Complete the required components of LEED for Homes Green Rater Mentorship within 24 months of passing exam. The mentorship components are done under direct oversight of a LEED for Homes Provider organization. It is strongly recommended that the applicant establish a working relationship with a Provider as early as possible within the LEED for Homes Green Rater pathway.

9.Obtain LEED for Homes Green Rater Certificate from GBCI

As part of registration, you will be asked to select the workshop you will attend. Upon registration, you will receive an e-mail with access to Part 1: Self-guided Online Modules 1.1-1.5. The e-mail will also contain additional instructions on the remainder of the training. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

•Manage and conduct verification activities
•Effectively use the project checklist file
•Communication effectively with project teams and LEED for Homes Providers
•Apply the sampling protocol on applicable projects
•Prepare accurate and complete certification submittal packages
