Each year Hamilton County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency recognizes the important partners that support their Agency in pursuing their mission: Provide effective communication and collaboration to create a culture of preparedness that builds and sustains a disaster resistant and resilient community in Hamilton County. One of the most important partnerships that they try to recognize is those communities within Hamilton County who have embraced the idea of creating a “culture of preparedness” and demonstrate their commitment to emergency preparedness efforts.

For many years now, Springfield Township has been a significant partner to their Agency. From inviting them to join in community events, to hosting the National Weather Service at the Grove for Severe Weather Spotter training, to sending personnel to participate in the county’s Emergency Operations Center team, and partnering with the Alert Hamilton County notification program, amongst many other initiatives. As such, Springfield Township has been recognized with the Resilient Community Award.

Hamilton County Emergency Communications (9-1-1) have partnered with the Hamilton County Fire Chiefs Association, Christ Hospital, and UC Health to bring PulsePoint Respond to the residents of Hamilton County.

Sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere. Survival often comes down to speed: the sooner CPR begins, the better a person's chance of survival. By connecting trained bystanders with people in need in real time, PulsePoint aims to shrink the time between collapse, CPR, and defibrillation — minutes that can make the difference between life and death."There's nothing more helpless than knowing what's going on, knowing how you can help, but you can't just get the help to that person that needs it," explains Hamilton County Emergency Communications director, Andy Knapp. "And PulsePoint is one of those apps that's going to bridge that gap and really help us bring help as quickly as possible."

How It Works

PulsePoint Respond is a location-aware app connected to participating public safety systems. When a possible cardiac arrest is reported in a public place, the app can notify nearby users who have identified themselves as CPR-trained and willing to help.

While 911 dispatchers send emergency crews, PulsePoint simultaneously alerts qualified bystanders in the area, directing them to the person in need and to the location of the nearest automated external defibrillator, or AED.

Officials emphasized that the app is a supplement to, not a substitute for, existing emergency services. It does not replace 911 calls, dispatchers, firefighters, EMTs, or paramedics. Instead, it is designed to close the critical gap in the first few minutes after a cardiac arrest, before first responders can arrive on scene.
