On America’s 250th birthday, the National Flag Company honors Old Glory the old-fashioned way. There was a time when National Flag was the country’s largest. Its factory in the West End commanded an entire city block, shipping stars and stripes all over the world.
National Flag is still in the same neighborhood, fulfilling orders from everywhere: cities, states, countries, corporations, police and fire departments, institutions, families. Customers order flags by the hundreds or thousands, or a dozen large banners for an event, or flags and decorations for just about every major and minor sport, every scout troop, university, and neighborhood. Or maybe it’s just one solemn memento presented at a private ceremony that will be kept for generations. https://ow.ly/42Ci50Zb34P

You’re in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. After sleeping in a tent shared with seven strangers, you put on your supply backpack and continue your 155-mile run through the sand dunes.
This may sound like a bad dream, but this is a feat that ultrarunners like Crystal Clark (below, in the Sahara) do with joy. https://ow.ly/yGAO50Zb31i

Montessori, the most widely practiced alternative education model in the U.S., was created by Maria Montessori, a scientist and one of Italy’s first female physicians. In the early 1900s, working with poor children dismissed as “uneducable,” she observed that their natural curiosity drove them to teach themselves when they were given thoughtfully designed materials and gentle, mostly hands-off guidance.
With 13 public and about 30 private Montessori schools in the tri-state, Cincinnati is the most Montessori-rich city in the nation. An estimated 8,000 students are enrolled in the method here. https://ow.ly/ufsv50Zas4U

In a vibrant corner of Clifton, small businesses dominate the street and foot traffic flows. Buskers play right on the sidewalks, and a dedicated community council ensures regular neighborhood events keep visitors out from dawn to dusk. The window displays of locally owned boutiques showcase twinkling jewelry, clothing, and more, while the restaurants, bars, and cafés in between remain bustling day in and day out. This is the Clifton Gaslight District. https://ow.ly/aC9750Za5Pn
