What was once a critical component for navigating the Keys is now decommissioned (rather recently too in 2015). Now, the Loggerhead Key Lighthouse an oddly beautiful relic in one our most remote national parks

My family and I have been visiting the Florida Keys for the better part of 14 years. I feel like each and every time we’ve gone down, I’ve experienced something new and fall in love with the area all over again. This fly-over of one of the thousands of tiny islands is the most recent reminder to myself of how much more there is to discover and experience on this sliver of paradise

These bait fish were taking shelter from predators by hanging around an even bigger predator: this adult sand tiger shark. Fortunately for the bait, this sand tiger doesn’t seem to mind!

It’s been a challenge for me to put the spearfishing gear down for the camera rig the past few years. But when I saw just how many sand tiger sharks were stacked up on the live cams, I knew the first drift had to be with the camera. Was not disappointed!

Sand tigers everywhere and placid as ever. Their tranquil demeanor never ceases to surprise me, and makes for some extremely memorable encounters. Hope that they stick around more this year

Bonus: see how many grouper you can spot 👀

It’s pretty clear that I’ve been doing a bad job breaking out the camera. Blame it on other hobbies distracting me, blame it on ambitious home projects… but whatever the case, I was able to get out last weekend and enjoy time specifically focusing on photographic some of our local shorebirds here off Wrightsville Beach. The Marbled Godwit in particular stood out to me with its distinct bill and amber plumage. We’ve got some incredible wildlife here in coastal NC!

Four days of hard diving pays off! with a healthy black grouper from one of the many spots we explored. Unbelievable luck with the conditions, crew, and of course the fish. got us onto some great ones this specific day!
