🩵 I got to meet in Dayton last night and she was just as amazing in person as she is online.

💛 Q: Have you ever been to a book signing? What’s the furthest you’ve traveled to go to one?

⛈️ It was a whirlwind to get there, which included leaving work early and sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in the rain to get from Cincinnati to Dayton and barely making it in time.

💛 But my longtime friend saved me a seat, and my booksta pal met us there too.

🩵 They made waiting in line fun.

💛 Sarah had to be exhausted, but she was so kind. And Kerry Winfrey was there too!

p.s. Rain turned my hair into a feral creature. 😂

🩵 Q: Have you done any creative writing?

A: I’m pretty vocal about my books, but I majored in writing in college and have always loved it!

🧟 What’s it about?
Daphne has written a YA dystopian zombie novel… but didn’t have success with a literary agent / submission until she queried under a male pseudonym. And then her book gets picked up and she needs a man to pretend to be the author.

Enter Chris Stanton to play author Zane Re*****on. In real life Chris is an accountant trying to save his company, so he takes this gig and has to pretend to be grizzly, wilderness living Zane.

From shooting a news segment at Daphne’s house and staring down a grizzly bear to going on tour with Daphne as his “assistant,” this book is rife with humor, a slow sizzling burn, and a stark look at how women are treated vs. men.

🩵 My thoughts:

Within the first two chapters of reading this one I was telling all my book friends to request it on Netgalley. I was all in on this one.

I loved Chris trying to be macho Zane, despite being a cinnamon roll MMC. I adored Daphne’s pursuit of her dreams. Publicist Sakura was a welcome surprise! And the overall commentary about how men and women are perceived was fantastic.

The slow burn in this one sizzled. So many almosts and hidden moments. Swoon!

🐾 And there is even a dog!

There are a couple of small things I wanted more resolution on. But they don’t at all take away from this fun story!

💜 I met one of the best all around amazing people and hype-woman through Bookstagram.

This past weekend we got together for coffee to talk about publishing as she prepares to self-publish her debut!

While we were there she gave me a box with two indie books in it (more on those soon), and inside were these two bracelets.

♥️ I didn’t realize until I got home and looked at them more closely that they were bracelets for MY books. 🥹

💜 I love how supportive the writing community is. It can be a lonely endeavor, and these connections are just the best!

🩵 Q: What’s a memory from your childhood that stands out to you?

A: I loved going behind my grandparents’ house to explore the creek in the woods with my cousin and sisters.

💜 I have been meeting up with other Cincinnati authors and have met some of the most beautiful, creative, inspiring people. And Kassi is one of them. I’m so grateful she shared her first poetry collection with me, and can’t wait to read the next one.

🩵 What’s it about?
In this poetry collection, Kassi blends life with magic and spirituality to reflect on her girlhood outdoors and exploring the deep mysteries of the world.

💜 My thoughts:
Something about poetry makes me feel deeply nostalgic—like I’m tapping into another historic life.

And Kassie’s book manages to encapsulate that nostalgic / fantastic feeling so perfectly.

Likely because some of the poems are, quite literally, memories of girlhood. Others are almost like a primal, shared memory of mermaids. I know I’m not doing this justice, but it’s so beautiful and moving. And, like music, poetry evokes varying emotions for different people.

🩵 My favorites in this collection are “Sea Crickets,” “Pond,” “Creatures,” “ Underwater Baptism.”

💜 Some of the poems in this collection also perfectly distill my own third book (that I’m still waiting to share with the world).

♥️ Q: How are you spending this weekend?

I always have so much anxiety leading up to this point in the holiday season (mostly about making sure everything is done before we travel cross-country).

But this, right here, makes it all worth it. I love the days leading up to Christmas. We look at lights, listen to Christmas music, watch holiday movies, and I’m going to read all the Christmas books.

I’m finally getting to read the new Tessa Bailey that my amazing pal sent me, and I’m devouring it. It’s exactly what I needed to smile and unwind a bit.
