Akimbo Collection

They say I am
my mother’s daughter,

which is to say
there is another fire
that cannot be put out.

- S.L. Gray

I wrote this in my mom’s birthday card earlier this week. It’s one of those poems that kind of knocks the wind out of me, both as a daughter and a mother. I marvel at the fire in my daughters. It still burns so bright in my mom at 80. What an honor it is to watch my girls grow into women I admire.

The Nest and Co.

My nest got one daughter lighter last week as we dropped her off at college 😭 , but I restocked our collective neighborhood nest The Nest and Co. and it boosted my spirits to be surrounded by so much local beauty and talent ✨ Open Friday + Saturday 10am-6pm

Our beautiful second born baby, Petra Lucia, has spun mischief and light into our world and letting her go feels like I’m unraveling. She was raised in the house of Akimbo, where we are a crafty and can-do people, so there she goes, being crafty and can-do…and also an absolute academic and athletic BEAST. She’s attending Western Washington University Honors College and running XC and Track for the #1 ranked Vikings.

Petra’s success is her own, but her training and dream-chasing has been supported in large part by this little business. She grew up seeing me pour my time and creativity into Akimbo and represents every single aspect of the Akimbo spirit: Hands on Hips - A Power Stance. She is determined, she is hardworking, she is strong, she is a force.

I am grieving and celebrating and grateful and heartbroken and so, so happy for her. My usual sad/stressy move is to throw myself into work, so we’ll see what creative chaos ensues ✨

As always, THANK YOU for being here and shopping small and supporting businesses that are really just people.🖤
