Boundary survey pricing is not one-size-fits-all.
In Idaho, the cost of a survey often depends on what the land, records and local regulations require. A larger or irregularly shaped parcel can take more fieldwork. Dense vegetation, steep slopes or remote access can add time. Missing records can increase research. Monumentation and filing requirements can affect the final scope.
Before you buy, build, fence, subdivide or resolve a boundary question, get clear on what may affect the cost.

Stewart Ward was recently a guest on the Surveyor Says podcast hosted by Tim Burch. Stewart told his story on how he got into surveying, his career progression from initial exposure to student to small business owner, how he has learned to adjust as roles and responsibilities changed and how he sees the future of surveying.
If you are interested in hearing his story and learning more about Stewart, take a listen. Let us know in the comments what you learned or just general thoughts.

Boundary disputes are rarely about the fence.
They're usually about uncertainty.
A professional boundary survey helps replace assumptions with evidence so property owners can move forward with confidence.
That's why accurate boundary information matters.

One of the most valuable things a property owner can do is keep copies of previous surveys.
Having access to prior survey information can save time, reduce research costs, and provide valuable evidence when establishing boundaries.
If you have old survey documents, don't throw them away.
They're often more valuable than people realize.

One thing many property owners don't realize is that a large portion of a boundary survey happens before we ever set foot on the property.
Research matters.
We spend time reviewing deeds, plats, prior surveys and county records to understand the history of the parcel and surrounding properties.
Good records can save time.
Poor records often mean more investigation.
The field work is important, but the office research is often what makes the difference between a good survey and a great one.
People are often surprised to learn that surveyors spend a lot of time researching records before heading to the field.
Old deeds, subdivision plats, prior surveys, and county records all help tell the story of a property.
Good surveying isn't just measuring land.
It's understanding the history behind it.

I was able to get out of the office and in the field today to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.
Adam Thayer and I completed some scanning on a couple of bridge decks in Pocatello for Idaho Transportation Department to compare current conditions with design information.

Look for Idaho-licensed professionals with deep experience in local property laws, boundary standards, and county recording requirements so your survey holds up for future sales, financing, and legal questions.
