It’s nice when you get to tell a story about good things happening to good people.

Short version: a true friend of Paradise, Xan Parker, was nominated today for a National Emmy Award for a documentary produced for Netflix. It’s THE NEW YORKER AT 100.

Long version: Xan it is known to many of us for her work producing Ron Howard’s REBUILDING PARADISE documentary that came out in 2020. Since then she’s become a good friend of mine and advisor on my own THREE DAYS IN PARADISE.

I know it stays in touch with dozens of people on the ridge. I was lucky enough to see her in New York a few weeks ago, and it’s touching to see how much of an impression we left on her, and have so much of her heart is still on the ridge.

What inspires me to shout out from the rooftops is the film making business can be a rough, gross and dispiriting arena. But there are some people in it that are kind, thoughtful, dedicated, and the best kind of friends. People with small town values who work at the highest levels. You may have heard that this is true of Ron Howard (it is in my experience) but it’s triply true for Xan.

So this is just pointing out a good thing happening to a good person and a heads up… If you know her or have met her, today’s the day to let her know how you feel.

I am very proud of what this boy has pulled off.

At RocketSpots.tv we have been lucky enough to have won several Emmys over the years for our projects and had those on our teams nominated more than a dozen times.

But this one is very special to me as it’s for my youngest son Del Smith. The picture on the right is from our second appearance at the Northern California Emmy awards, where you see 10-year-old Del up with us on stage. The picture on the top left is him shooting a project he was directing in 2022.

In the bottom picture is from last night when he was nominated for his first Emmy award.

He has become a very good filmmaker in his own right and hung out his own shingle under the name Dreamfleet Productions. I’m very excited to see where he goes. Congrats buddy.

My eldest son Lou (not pictured) is currently studying planetary, geology, and has big plans for the Europa clipper in 2032. So different horses for a different courses, and congrats to you too, Lou.
