Today I was asked how I felt when my mother showed me the photo of Emmett Till in Jet Magazine.

For the first time in my life I understood how fear feels. The story of Emmett Till touched me to my core and guided my work over the last 5 decades.

As a pastor, I believe deeply in redemption. The Bible is filled with countless stories of imperfect men used to carry out good works.

Jesse was a dependable leader during his time in Congress and I’m excited to support his return to the political space.

This past week my team and I took a drive through Englewood where I’ve had an enormous impact in past years.

During our tour we ran into Ms. Mariam, she immediately recognized me and thanked me profusely for giving her the opportunity to become a homeowner over 20 years ago.

The project I spearheaded proved that affordable housing is both impactful and possible. Now 20 years later, this homeowner is preparing to pass down the equity in her home to the kids she raised here!

I am so excited for the opportunity to return to my community and push for more good in Englewood!

When you joined me for my Legacy celebration, I told you, you were the best governor Illinois has ever had and I meant it!
