Well false spring today in Chicago is doing quite the lil number on meeee🥰 Playing Bishop Hill, Iowa City, and Peoria this weekend. Headed out to open for the next week after too. The show in Iowa City is all ages and free. I’m looking forward to playing trio this weekend with Jack and Gus then playing duo (with upright bass!) with Gus next week!

“Wish I Had Not Said That” by J.J. Cale cover by Matt Gold and Elizabeth Moen

Matt and I met through playing a country covers gig at Hungry Brain called Side Pieces. We became friends after the sets by talking about various bands, songs, and players we both admire. Eventually, the idea of recording a cover together came to fruition this fall. “Wish I Had Not Said That” is one of the breeziest, most charming songs I’ve come across and recording a cover of it all day with Matt was as fun as the song itself. So, here’s a sweet ol’ J.J. Cale deep cut for ya available on streaming.

This last month was a ride.

Played some special shows here in Chicago. I want to first thank Recipe for Change for what they do at Cook County Jail. I was honored to perform original music there last week. Also played at the Looking Glass Theater downtown for a couple holiday events, including one for the Chad Smith Foundation. I also got to rock out at Timber Lanes and Color Club with a lot of really special musicians and comedians and up at a chapel in Winnetika with .

Between all of that, I got a chance to open for one of my favorite drummers/singers/guitarists, , and play shows in Dublin and western Ireland with her amazing backing band and Next New Low. Saw scenery that literally took my breath away, laughed harder than I had in years, and fell completely in love with the peaceful air and people in the small towns of western Ireland.

Spent time in my small town in Iowa for the first time in many years and got some really good news on the phone while I was reconnecting with old places. This news prompted me to get a beer at a bar for the first time in my small town with my grandparents. That news will be shared another time.

Side note, I finally got to hear my favorite song live in a chapel last night. “Love Takes Miles”
