Many Rush Copley Medical Center employees say co-workers are like family. For Jorge Ramirez Esquivel and his son and daughter, it’s true.
Jorge has worked in Environmental Services for eight years while his son, Jorge Ramirez II, has been in Security for eight years. Maria Benitez — Jorge’s daughter and Jorge II’s sister — is a certified medical assistant in Women’s Health. Maria and Jorge worked at Rush Copley first and encouraged their dad to join them.
“It’s a good Rush family and great mission,” Jorge II says, “and it’s close to home.”
Rush Copley proved to be a great fit for their dad. In 2022, he was recognized as Employee of the Month and then Employee of the Year, with his co-workers praising him for being a great worker, always willing to help and even come in on days off to help his team.
“Winning Employee of the Year, especially in a large company, is a tremendous honor. It reflects hard work, dedication and a commitment to excellence,” Maria says. “I was beyond proud of my dad.”
Although they work different shifts and live busy lives, Jorge appreciates the opportunity to catch up with his children in the hallways or front entrance. Sometimes when he picks up a morning shift, he’ll call Maria to see if their lunches align.
Working in the same place creates a sense of support and familiarity in the workplace, Maria says. At the same time, it allows them to grow independently in their own roles.
“Being part of the same organization gives us the opportunity to share experiences, learn from each other’s knowledge and take pride in contributing to the hospital’s mission of providing quality patient care,” she says. “It also strengthens our family bond.”
