This 12th Release, we made just 16 Archive Craft Coats. Each one was designed, cut, and hand-sewn in Chicago using reclaimed materials and deadstock tees from the FRET12 graphic archive. Every coat is a one-of-one composition. No two are the same.

They sat down with co-founder Dan Tremonti to talk about where FRET12 came from, the story behind the String Thing, making clothing in Chicago, and the idea that continues to connect it all.

This 12th Release, we made just 16 Archive Craft Coats, each designed, cut, and hand-sewn in Chicago by FRET12. Made from reclaimed materials and deadstock tees pulled from our graphic archive, each coat brings pieces of past FRET12 artwork into a new composition, almost like a record cover. No two are the same. Built for whatever the day calls for.

No. 15 of 16 takes that idea further than any other coat in the release. Its back is built up from dozens of pieces pulled from past FRET12 tees, labels, graphics, and patches, layered together into one dense composition.

The inspiration comes from the visual language of sticker-covered city walls, old concert posters layered over one another, and the patch-heavy battle jackets that have long been part of punk and metal culture. Every piece has its own history, but together they become something completely new.
