Bright Pink’s Legacy of Impact — Bright Pink 10/23/2024

Today, after 18 years of transforming breast and ovarian cancer awareness into action, Bright Pink proudly announces a $3.5M legacy gift to launch the Bright Pink Preventive Risk Outreach And Cascade Testing (PROACT) Program at Stanford Medicine. This transformative gift marks the close of our daily operations and entrusts the future of our mission to a team of leading experts in breast and ovarian health.

Led by Dr. Allison Kurian and Dr. Jennifer Caswell-Jin of Stanford Medicine, in collaboration with the University of Michigan, the PROACT Program will build on Bright Pink’s work using family health history to expand access to genetic testing. Through a proven online platform that makes sharing family health information—and acting on it—easier, faster, and more accessible than ever before, this program intends to empower families nationwide to understand and share their genetic risks and enable their loved ones to take life-saving action.

As we reflect on all we’ve accomplished, we are filled with pride and gratitude for the Bright Pink community—the young women at the heart of our mission and the countless individuals and organizations who have championed it along the way. From our first 15 years serving millions of young women with life-saving education and resources to our recent work advancing health equity with our Mission Partners through the Bright Pink Venture Fund, our collective charge has remained the same: save young women's lives from breast and ovarian cancer through bold, innovative solutions. The PROACT Program intends to carry this legacy of life-saving impact forward and shape a better, brighter future for generations to come.

Nueva Vida: Bright Pink will support Nueva Vida as they continue to standardize De Madres a Hijas and position it for nationwide replicability, pioneering this intergenerational intervention that centers on community-based, mother-daughter programming to best meet the needs of an underserved Latina population.

FORCE: Bright Pink will support FORCE as it continues to steward and expand the PALs program, enabling a diverse cohort of community advocates to push for state legislative and policy change, and will aid in completing a financial impact study to quantify the fiscal impact of improved coverage and access to preventive services.

Know Your Lemons: Bright Pink will support Know Your Lemons as they develop and launch a partnership program that will make their life-saving tools, including their Webby-Award winning app, available to 300,000 more young women annually through sharing of resources with peer organizations and companies.

Wisdom Study: Bright Pink will support WISDOM, a nationwide study out of UCSF aiming to personalize each women’s breast screening and prevention schedule, to develop, test and implement a breast screening communication campaign that will empower a diverse cohort of young women to join WISDOM, learn their breast cancer risk, and contribute to better personalized breast healthcare

We cannot wait for the year ahead as we continue to work to reduce health disparities and ensure the best breast and ovarian care for young women.

Black Breast Cancer is a different disease as Black women have a 41% higher mortality rate than white women and a 39% higher recurrence rate.

And since Black Breast Cancer is different, we know that Black Breast Health must look different too.

That is why we are so proud to have supported our Mission Partner Touch, The Black Breast Cancer Alliance in launching an education movement solely focused on Black Breast Health, targeting young women ages 18 to 35 who do not have a cancer diagnosis and aren't even thinking about breast cancer. It is imperative that young Black Women understand their risk for breast cancer and take action.
