Yesterday, we concluded our 12 week ACE Summer Design Build Program where we designed and built an outdoor structure with 30 high school students at a community garden in Englewood. The program was created and funded by and they hired with us this year to develop and manage the program. Since April, we have been working with students from all over the city to select a community client, research the site, develop design concepts, create a master plan and ultimately build the space. This spring, we selected a garden in Englewood called Libations to the Ancestors which is part of and . In the first ten weeks, we developed a master plan for the three lot garden and selected which components we were going to build with the students and donor companies. Over the course of two weeks, the students worked with tools to build 11 modular seats, 2 fixed benches and 3 compost bins. At the same time, companies donated materials and labor to build other components of the space like R Olson pouring a concrete pad for a shade structure that was built by .contracting and carpenters. was able to help us deliver components from our fabrication space at to the site at 6340 S Morgan. As you can tell, there were a lot of people that contributed to the program which added a lot of value and meaning to the project, we are thankful for their contributions. We also want to thank the instructors that ran the day by day activities of the program Alex Casimiro .the.dummy . A special shoutout to all of the ACE mentors that volunteered to help students with the project. We had mentors from the following companies: .structural

As the year comes to a close, we’re celebrating the amazing work from our Urban Gardening Design-Build class collaboration with !
This program introduced students to the world of design and architecture through hands-on activities, including a field trip to the 606 trail, creative brainstorming with collaging, and meaningful community feedback during the ASM showcase.
After weeks of learning and planning, we came together to build benches and planter beds. Together, we learned to use power tools, worked as a team, and transformed the space into a welcoming green area!
Cheers to teamwork, creativity, and a greener future in the year ahead!
