We are regular Chicago families...with jobs and kids...who are collecting books to be donated to Chicago Public Schools without libraries and with a homeless population of 15% plus. We are not a 501c3, and do everything through volunteers and using our own homes.
A major announcement:
After almost a decade, it is time for BooksFirst! to close.
With only volunteers, and zero funding, BooksFirst! has succeeded in collecting and delivering over 75k kids' book to 62 Chicago Public Schools in desperate need of them.
We are grateful for every educator and every heartfelt supporter of Chicago's children for their big hearts and their generosity.
Please continue to use your kindness and empathy to help children in whatever way you can...be it volunteering at an underserved school, doing a book drive for a school without a library, or collecting warm winter gear for them.
One caring adult can change a child's life...
one book can ignite a lifelong love of reading...
one warm coat can help a child go to school.
We wish all of you happiness.

Finally, someone said it.
Dear Chicago Friends:
We have 9 weeks in which to decide whether or not BooksFirst! will continue.
Covid hit us really hard. We lost all our Transport Angels as well as our contact at CPS who introduced us to schools.
For us to continue we need:
Chicago schools tht needs books.
Transport Angels who are willing to pick up books from our northside locations and take them to schools.
If you can help, please e-mail us at [email protected]
