What an incredible early birthday weekend. I had an AMAZING time being back on the campus of Illinois State University! ❤️🤍
I was deeply honored to receive the highest honor given by the ISU College of Arts & Sciences, induction into its Hall of Fame. Returning to the place that helped shape my journey—and celebrating this milestone—made the experience especially meaningful.
Thank you to the university and college leadership for this incredible honor and to the students and everyone who helped make the celebration so special.
Whether it was reconnecting with old friends, joining students during class, speaking at the NAACP ISU Chapter meeting held in conjunction with my Fraternity Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Eta Tau Chapter, joining the Black Student Union Kickoff or just talking with students in the Bone Student Center, I was reminded why I remain so hopeful about our future. The energy, thoughtful questions, and passion for making a difference of the young people I encountered is inspiring.
To cap the excitement off with a win by Illinois State Football was INCREDIBLE!🏈
ISU helped prepare me for a life of service. Being back was a powerful reminder of where that journey began and the responsibility to help open doors for those coming next.

What an AMAZING day on Capitol Hill!
It was great meeting with our U.S. Senators Senator Dick Durbin and Senator Tammy Duckworth and Congressman Jonathan Jackson - IL-01 about the investments and progress we are making in criminal justice policy in Illinois and across the nation in partnership with the CSG Justice Center.
One of the trip’s highlights was presenting Congressman Danny K. Davis with an award as a Congressional Champion of the CSG Justice Center. It was also a pleasure to honor U.S. Senators John Cornyn and Senator Amy Klobuchar and Congressman Don Bacon for their leadership and commitment to advancing justice.
As the Past National Chair of The Council of State Governments and a Member of the Executive Board of the CSG Justice Center Advisory Board, it was an honor to join other Board members for a productive and inspiring day of advocacy, partnership, and public service!
