On May 14, MATTER convenes a powerful conversation on transforming end-of-life care. Too often, people receive care at the end of life that doesn’t reflect their values. Families face impossible decisions. Inequities in healthcare become most visible in these moments.
There is a better way.
Join MATTER CEO Steven Collens for a conversation with Dr. Jessica Zitter and Chaplain Betty Clark — two leaders who have spent more than a decade rethinking how care is delivered in life’s most consequential moments. Together, they’ve modeled a more human approach that honors both medical and emotional needs.
Their work is the subject of the award-winning documentary The Chaplain & The Doctor, which Darren Walker, former president of the Ford Foundation, has called, “a timely and compelling exploration of the hidden dangers of implicit bias in healthcare.”
We hope you'll join us for this important discussion and stay for continued conversation over coffee.

Last week, we hosted a thoughtful and energizing conversation with Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel around his new book, Eat Your Ice Cream: Six Simple Rules for a Long and Healthy Life.
The conversation covered what evidence actually tells us about living longer, healthier and more meaningful lives. From food and exercise to social connection and purpose, the discussion reinforced that living a long and healthy life doesn't require unnecessary complexity or perfectionism, but nailing the basics: sleep well, exercise, keep learning, build social connections — and don’t be afraid, on occasion, to eat dessert.
Thank you to Dr. Emanuel for sharing his perspective with wisdom and clarity, and thank you to everyone who joined us in person.
