In 2023, Plates On Purpose submitted applied to purchase a vacant city lot and create a community garden in South Chicago. Unfortunately, the application decision we received on 12/7/23 was not in our favor. On 12/13/23, the approval of three community gardens were praised by DPD. We are happy for our neighbors and will continue to work towards the goal of community wellness. Stay tuned for future program announcements to support this work.

We've applied for a city-owned vacant lot in the 7th ward! Inspired by Medicinal Plant Gardens like the Dorothy Bradley Atkins Medicinal Plant Garden, we put forth a proposal to steward the land using native and medicinal plants. This would be a wonderful home base for Plates On Purpose in the South Chicago neighborhood. Wish us good luck and favor!

2 local organizations team up & collaborate with the South Chicago Christian Center to provide a thanksgiving inspired meal. The center provides weekly meals in our community and we’re happy to support. We’re looking forward to coming back the Thursday before Christmas to serve with you all again! 🎁
