Neighborhood Development Services Salutes the Bronzeville " Black Metropolis Historical District" During Our Celebration of Black History Month. During the depression in 1932 , in this area of Chicago called "Bronzeville" the people in this community earned the name "Black Metropolis" because they created their own goods and services. During this era African Americans created one of the most successful Insurance Companies, the oldest African American News paper, and the largest African American Cosmetic and hygiene companies in the world. I'm proud to say I was born here and live here.
