💊 Happy World Pharmacists Day!

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible pharmacists who help make high-quality health care possible at CommunityHealth, including Aissatou and Ale, pictured here!

For people without health insurance, the cost of prescription medications can mean choosing between getting the medicine they need and paying for necessities like rent, utilities, or food. At CommunityHealth, we believe no one should have to make that choice.

Through our onsite MedAccess Chicago Pharmacy, patients receive their medications completely free of charge. Each year, our pharmacy provides more than 34,000 prescriptions.

But our pharmacists do much more than fill prescriptions. They work closely with our clinical team to make sure medications are safe and effective, provide Medication Therapy Management, and support patients managing diabetes and other chronic conditions.

On World Pharmacists Day, we’re grateful for Aissatou, Ale, and all of our pharmacy staff and volunteers who help remove barriers to medication and make healthier lives possible for our patients.

At CommunityHealth, we’re proud to celebrate the vibrant cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities — and honored to care for a patient community that reflects that incredible diversity.

Nearly three-quarters of our patients identify as Hispanic or Latino, 70% list Spanish as their primary language, and our patients represent at least 16 countries across Latin America.

Every day, our staff and volunteers work to make high-quality health care accessible, welcoming, and culturally responsive — from primary and specialty care to behavioral health, medications, health education, and more, all provided at no cost to our patients.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate our patients, volunteers, staff, and neighbors who make our community stronger and healthier.

🌟 Meet our September Volunteer of the Month, Amir Moghtader!

Since joining CommunityHealth in December 2025, Amir has already contributed an incredible 115 hours to supporting our patients and community.

Amir was nominated for his dedication, flexibility, and willingness to step up wherever he’s needed — from filling a last-minute greeter shift to joining our Greeter Trainer Team, where he now helps welcome and prepare new volunteers. In triage, Amir brings that same commitment to patient care, treating everyone with kindness and respect and helping put anxious patients at ease.

As Volunteer Services Coordinator Sarah Maher shared, Amir is “kind, reliable, and always willing to fill in where needed most.”

🌟 Volunteer Spotlight: Holly Buckley 🌟

For Board Member Holly Buckley, the belief that everyone deserves access to quality health care is deeply personal.

Growing up in England, Holly took health care access for granted. After moving to the U.S., a frightening medical emergency opened her eyes to just how much financial concerns can shape a person’s experience of seeking care.

That experience is part of what drew Holly to CommunityHealth—and since joining our Board in 2024, she has made an incredible impact. Her fundraising efforts have generated more than $40,000 for CommunityHealth, she has helped introduce new people to our mission, and her creativity and commitment earned her our 2025 Fundraiser of the Year award.

As Holly puts it: “Participating with CommunityHealth is how I align my time with my values.”

We’re so grateful to Holly for sharing her time, talents, and passion in support of quality health care for all. 💙

CommunityHealth's CEO, Steph Willding, is the Vice Chair of SERVE Illinois, which is a state-wide commission committed to the promotion of volunteerism and public service. They hosted the annual 9/11 Day event, where thousands of volunteers pack meals for Greater Chicago Food Depository. In the first shift alone we packed a record-breaking 200,000 meals and they expect over 500,000 to be packed by end of day. This is a nationwide day of service organized by the families of 9/11 victims aimed at focusing on caring for our neighbors and one another. Thank you, Steph, for participating in this important service event!

Addressing Systemic Inequities in Immigrant Healthcare

How do systemic barriers shape healthcare access for immigrant communities—and what can research, communication, and community-based practice do to address them?

Join 2025 DMC Solutions Lab Grantee Dr. Jay Baglia, Alice Woo with CommunityHealth, and Dr. Jessica Jerome for a conversation exploring the systemic barriers that shape healthcare access for immigrant communities today. The panelists will draw on local and global research, community-based practice models, and real-world experience to examine how innovative approaches can expand access to care.

Together, the panelists will consider how research and practice can move beyond identifying health inequities to developing practical, community-informed approaches that reduce barriers to essential healthcare services and prioritize patient needs.
