Chicago’s intercity bus station serves ~500,000 riders a year and is critical for travelers who rely on affordable transit. Chicago was close to losing its main downtown intercity bus station in 2024, but the public fought to save it. Now a long-term solution to save and fix the station is in sight.

📣 Email your alderperson and share your thoughts about why the city should buy the station and improve intercity bus service for Chicago.

We’re excited to share our new report, The State of ETOD in Chicago, highlighting Chicago’s progress on equitable transit-oriented development over the past five years.

The report shows how has grown from a niche planning concept into a broader framework shaping housing, planning, and investment across the city. Chicago has made meaningful progress expanding transit-oriented development beyond downtown and the North Side to communities on the South and West Sides—becoming a national leader on ETOD in the process.

While progress has been made across all 42 ETOD Policy Plan recommendations, there is still important work ahead, especially on the Far South Side and Southwest Side.

With major transit investments on the horizon and the Red Line Extension underway, Chicago has a major opportunity to continue advancing equitable, transit-connected development without displacement.

Read the full report at the link in bio.

Special thanks to the report’s authors, our coalition partners, our City partners at , , .dot, , and the Mayor’s Office, and our funders whose collaboration and support made this work possible.
