January was for the dogs (good thing)

From Dunes camping with my favorite people and dogs in Chicago to witnessing a historic election win with my favorite people in Brooklyn to moonlighting as a precocious young witch, catching a Bedard hatty with my brother, cheering on two marathons, taking in a Shintaro Sakamoto show, and drinking roughly 1,000 beers, the good times are rolling (right over me)

My latest single “Saturn Returns” is live + half-dead on all streaming platforms. Time is surreal. Days are long and years flash by. People blur into one another. Accomplishments rust. Saturn is strict because he has to be. Otherwise what would we learn from such sleight-of-hand? Follow the cup that holds the ball. Follow it until there is no ball, no cup, no table. Only the hand that moves the memory of things. It’s all a game, and then it isn’t, and then it is again, if it is any consolation. The prize is a stuffed animal, an albatross gathering dust.
You win you lose, you lose you lose, it’s all loss. It’s the only way to move forward. I’ve seen Saturn by my side, I’ve seen Saturn opposing me. I’ve heard even Saturn is losing its rings, though it’s too far away for me to say for sure. But there are things I can say for sure. I hear them between the pauses of the music. I see them in the vacant phases of the moon.

Today is the two year anniversary of “Best Intentions.” I was listening to a lot of sexy R&B/ indie pop around that time and wanted to use it to say something about modern relationships.

The album moves from immaturity to maturity. To blindly acting on our impulses, trauma, toxic societal and ancestral influences to knowing oneself and acting with intention.

Heartbreak is a great teacher. Regret. And then when you learn these lessons and get into a new relationship often the same dynamics come up again and you realize how much work you still need to do. Growth is not a magic trick. It’s messy and hard but it happens. It’s cyclical, like incarnation. Coming back to the same situations with new perspective.

In the end best intentions are not enough. It’s about how we show up, about what we do. We’re going to make mistakes, but it’s about working to be a better person, for ourselves and the people we love. The album ends on a bittersweet note, but there is hope. This need for connection is built deep within us, and while the path may have its ups and downs we’re always moving forward.

“Your task is not to seek love but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against love.” -Rumi

“Gladis” is my love song to direct action and collective unity. A better world is possible, but we must contend with those actively working against it. Those with a pathological obsession for wealth and power will never have enough, while we have less and less, and the world hangs on the precipice of climate disaster. Gladis, the orca sinking yachts in the Atlantic, reminds us of our power and shows us the way through.

All dogs go 2 heaven

Gladis - Del Fidelity 01/29/2025

Wrote a song from the perspective of White Gladis, the orca whale that gained notoriety by sinking yachts off of the Iberian Peninsula. As the billionaire class hoards more and more wealth at the expense of the world and people living in it, she is a reminder that a better world is possible. That the world does not belong to a handful of elites but to all living beings, and its' time we start acting like it. All power to the people. A better world is possible.
