Ignition project space is an experimental contemporary art space in West Humboldt Park, Chicago, IL, USA

Ignition project space supports artists by providing a modest stipend for solo shows in our gallery, window space and outdoor courtyard. Ignition encourages non-commercial project-based exhibitions, events and the development of new work. All media, artistic backgrounds and experience levels are welcome - we seek a variety of artistic perspectives.

Join us on Friday, June 5, 6-9pm for the opening reception of our June exhibitions:
⚡️Samuel Schwindt / Pleasure Puncture
In this exhibition, hedonism in material marries desire in culture. His sources are the dirt coatings his nostrils after a music fest, his past pained motocross competitions, his strained hands from stitching leather, his euphoria at q***r spaces in the night.

⚡️Chris Reeves / Syllabus of Effects
Syllabus of Effects shares its name with the title of 6 themed artists books Chris Reeves made in 2024 based on his love of syllabus creation and a desire to share and galvanize unruly pedagogy.

⚡️Charlotte Briskin / Spontaneous Symmetry
This exhibition connects the synchronicities of life, from microscopic structures to planetary phenomena, through the material exploration of textiles and handmade paper.

The word reads the same forwards and backwards, mirroring itself perfectly. Rotator performs rotation just by being read - form and meaning reflect each other.
⚡️Bethany Cordero / The Plurality of Structure
Work driven by material process as a way of thinking through impermanence, time and the malleability of identity.
⚡️Michael Thompson / Separate Church and State
Multimedia cobbled together from discarded, appropriated, manufactured, objects, images, both in and out of the public domain.

The Ballad of Cocoon Baby (Part 1)

Ignition Satellite space
Mana Contemporary
April 23 - May 18

Opening /open house at Mana in conjunction with Expo Chicago
Saturday, April 26 2-10pm

The Ballad of Cocoon Baby (Part 1) is a new installation by Mariel Harari featuring sculpture, fiber, drawing and photo based works. This ongoing series considers ways to untangle what is nourishing in past and passed down experience, from what calcifies in memory to create holding patterns in and around us. The work follows the titular character as she breaks open to heal and build agency, by softening, rooting, adapting and learning from trees.
