Before they could see the far side of the Moon, they had to disappear behind it.

In December 1968, the crew of Apollo 8 became the first people to leave Earth’s orbit and travel to the Moon. Each pass took them behind it and out of radio contact, into a silence no one had crossed before. The phrase they used as they went dark has since become part of the mission’s legend: “We’ll see you on the other side.”

More than fifty years on, that journey lives on through the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8.

In sailing’s oldest contest, the race is often won in the minutes before it begins, at the start line, where timing decides everything. This Seamaster was built to honour that, marking its maker’s role as Official Timekeeper at the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona in 2024.

When this Black Bay Bronze debuted at Baselworld in 2016, the material was the point. Bronze was not chosen for permanence. It was chosen for the way it yields to time: oxidizing slowly, taking on a patina shaped by the conditions of the life it leads. What life will this one lead.

A watch that hides its discipline behind the appearance of ease is the hardest kind to make.

The PanoMaticLunar was built around a principle older than watchmaking itself: the Goldren Ratio the Saxons called the divine proportion. Nothing on the dial is centred. The hours and minutes sit to one side, the small seconds below them, the Panorama Date and the moon to the right, each element placed ever so accordingly. The result? An effortless timepiece seemingly unaware of its inner workings until revealed by the stunning caseback display.
