How do we connect with youth in our community? This is one of the most common questions we are asked by houses of worship. Our answers vary depending on resources, insurance coverage, as well as community demographics, socioeconomics and needs. For many, engagement in sports activities, coupled with religious education and/or academic support, is a viable option. Youth sports has become a multi-million dollar industry in which kids without resources are often left out. Check out this reel on the state of youth sports, the influence of private equities, and new legislation to keep sports accessible for all kids.

So many of our houses of worship work tirelessly to meet the demands of food insecurity. From pantries to after-school meals, they ensure all within their reach have armor against hunger. People often write narratives in their heads to minimize hunger and distance themselves from those experiencing it. Confining the problem to the lazy creates the expanse needed to look the other way. But check out this clip that helps draw the dots, illustrating the ways working folks find themselves in the hunger struggle and the structures designed to keep them there. Food for thought...
