Over the past year, we’ve had the opportunity to work closely with the , Illinois on a new set of gateway signs designed to welcome both residents and visitors into the community.

Our team was tasked with designing, fabricating, and installing eight gateway signs that tie seamlessly into Northbrook’s existing logo / typography while introducing a more modern, refined look. A key objective was incorporating a natural material aesthetic. While wood was the initial inspiration, we ultimately selected a high-end aluminum wood-composite material to deliver the same warmth and character—without the long-term maintenance and refinishing challenges of natural wood.

The signs are installed throughout Northbrook, and all locations lacked access to electrical power for lighting. As a result, each sign was engineered with solar illumination. We’re currently completing installation and testing of the solar panels and LED lighting—an especially fun challenge given Illinois ranks around #15 nationally for natural sunlight compared to Sun Belt states.
