‘The State of Biblical Fatherhood’: Sobering Reality and Substantial Opportunity for Churches 04/20/2026

Sobering Truths About Biblical Fatherhood – And a Big Opportunity

Over 78% of Christian dads aren't reading or discussing Scripture with their kids.

The 2025 State of Biblical Fatherhood report (6,000+ dads) reveals huge gaps in spiritual leadership at home—yet churches have a tremendous opportunity to equip fathers. At LMM, our Project XII discipleship and resources like the Master Builders Bible help men lead their families boldly as God intended. Fathers matter!

‘The State of Biblical Fatherhood’: Sobering Reality and Substantial Opportunity for Churches While sociologists have studied fatherhood for decades, until now the church has lacked reliable data on how Christian men live out their role as spiritual leaders.

Daily Lenten Prayer
What difference does Good Friday make? While I certainly don't have all the answers, there are at least 6 scriptural truths found in the crucifixion of Jesus that have become a steady guide in my life of faith:

1. Forgiveness of Sins: Jesus' death on the cross is the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity.

2. Reconciliation with God: The crucifixion establishes a new relationship between humanity and God, one of reconciliation rather than estrangement. God's love and mercy are revealed through Jesus' sacrifice, making it possible for us to be in a relationship with him.

3. Eternal Life: The resurrection of Jesus, following his crucifixion, is a powerful symbol of victory over death and the promise of eternal life.

4. New Life in Christ: The crucifixion is not just about past sins being forgiven, it also signifies a new way of life, one lived in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Through faith in Jesus, we are transformed into new creatures in Christ, with new desires and motivations.

5. Model for Living: The cross provides a powerful model for living a life of love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. Jesus' willingness to suffer for others demonstrates the depth of God's love and the call to serve others, even when it is difficult.

6. Confronting Our Sinfulness: The crucifixion also confronts us with the reality of our sinfulness and the consequences of our actions. It is a reminder that we are not perfect and that we need God's grace and forgiveness.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, you came down from heaven to earth from your Father’s side, suffered five wounds on the wood of the cross, and shed your precious blood for the forgiveness of our sins. At the day of judgment set us at your right hand, speak to us those sweet words, “Come, you who are blessed, into my Father’s kingdom;” with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and forever.

Daily Lenten Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Far too often, I am distracted by concerns about whatever problem could be coming soon or is clearly on the horizon. Too often we focus on the our desires versus listening to you. On Maundy Thursday, in a little room where you ate with your disciples, you knew what was coming ahead, and you still found time to wash people’s feet (John 13:1-7). Help me to remember that whatever troubles are ahead, there are opportunities now to serve.

Daily Lenten Prayer
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” — John 14:26

Out there on the Nevada playa, the dawn silence was so deafening all I could hear was the ringing in my own ears – and God’s still, small voice.
I walked on the dead-flat alkaline plane, dust kicking up around me, as the sun slipped over the Toiyabe Mountains to the east. I was in the middle of nowhere. I thought of Jesus in the wilderness, the temptation he felt, the voices in his head telling him he could be king of all on this earth, but the Holy Spirit carrying him through all that. The Satan in his face, his dusty face. The words that he couldn’t escape in the moment but knew he would overcome after those 40 days were over, with the Spirit guiding him forward and His father’s promise ringing in his ears just as the silence rang in mine, out here in this harsh but beautiful space. I kept walking just as he did. We believers do that. We keep walking, even toward the cross, because we have true faith that there is great joy on the other side. When we stop to listen, to really listen, the voice comes through in a whisper of wind. We try to speak but the words dry up in our throats, so we listen some more. We remember.
The end is near. The suffering is silenced. Then comes the resurrection. And I, and we, begin again.
Amen.

A Stephen Ministry adage goes: “The biggest compliment you can give anyone is simply to listen to them”. This text from Proverbs goes even deeper. It is implying reverent respect - a spiritual listening discipline of being fully present and seeking to hear beyond words. May it serve us well as we reach the final days of Lent and beyond.

“Turn my ear to your words God and keep them within my heart. Amen”
