Chicagoans can catch the action LIVE tonight as 4 of the artists take the stage at ‘s PLAY event - Friday 4/24 8-11pm.

A who’s who of Someoddpilot Records artists, friends and collaborators, this is a group of musicians who have performed & written together for over two decades.

Most of them appear on the last remix compilation released on SOPR, ‘s “evil vs. evil: the kids in the neighborhood pick up their bats and remix abrasive stuttering” in 2003. They are reunited here 23 years later, with more to come from each of them on future SOPR releases.

Sanford Parker, who plays bass in , records and mixes most current SOPR music from a recording studio located in the old office on the north side of , which, uncoincidentally, sits above a concrete bunker that serves as a rehearsal space for many of the artists on the label. .music has been in multiple bands with the label founder and members of . both still machine and are one half of metal band Beak and The Timeout Drawer. And on and on. To say SOPR is a family affair is nearly an understatement.

What comes with years of friendship is an undeniable shorthand that hastens collaboration, love and most of all, fun.

🔥Chicago IDM revival🔥this Friday! Calling all laptop & electro curious music enthusiasts. This one’s for you.

On Friday, April 24th, we are gathering the architects of the Chicago underground for a rare evening of live electronics and experimental sound.

*IDM = intelligent dance music, late 90s term

This show is a resurrection of the energy that defined the legendary Monday night PLAY series at throughout the 90s and early 2000s.

We’re bringing together veteran musicians and core SOPR roster members for a night of performances from artists who rarely, if ever, take over the PA.

Unlocking the “pop” in a parallel dimension.

We’ve teamed up to bring you the final single before the full drop of the ‘Echoes of Echoes Within’ remix collection. .hq has taken the title track from ’s recent LP and reimagined everything but the vocals to create something that feels both alien and, on purpose, deeply human. “Devices don’t have to divide us,” the duo made up of and tell us.

TFNC reverse-engineered the original track into MIDI “sheet music” and played it back through custom virtual instruments and foley percussion recorded everywhere from a NY hotel to a Costco tire shop.

Both Chris and Sean (Salvo Beta) faced the life-altering diagnosis of an acoustic neuroma, a rare, benign tumor that challenges everything you know about sound. For two people whose lives revolve around sound, the road through surgery and hearing loss has been a “bionic” evolution. After an cochlear implant that can pipe in audio into his skull via Bluetooth, Sean feels like he’s “EQ-ing” his own brain.

We are stoked to share their stories of resilience and the technical challenge of making music when your brain processes sound through electrodes instead of hair cells.
